Square Enix to buy out Eidos
« on: February 12, 2009, 08:34:31 PM »
I can say I am definitely happy about this.  First we bought out Gas Powered Games and will be publishing Supreme Commander II and now we'll get our grubby hands on all the Eidos titles.  I wonder if this will increase my chances of being able to get a date with the Lara Croft model.

Now, if only we can release the US version of FFXIII this year instead of 2010.

Until somebody translates the Japanese Ace Combat 3, I'll never be happy.

You know I understand all that and I actually encourage good game design companies to flourish and grow. BUT I hate to see the small, well rounded developers go the way of the do-do bird just because someone wants to buy them up. Not that Eidos or GPG were exactly small but GPG is on the verge of being one of those medium sized game companies that does great work. I hope it works out good for you guys at Square Enix.

I answered an ad for some "in house software testers" back in late 1997 when my wife and I moved to SF about mid-year of 1997. It ended up leading me from the temp firm to working as a volunteer (free employee with nothing but the hope to get on with a paying job) doing some in house testing for Eidos/Innerloop in 1997-1998 on some patches for Joint Strike Fighter. I also got to see the first versions of Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines shortly after it was started as well. That was back when I was wanting to get into the whole game design/production side of gaming. Now I am glad that I didn't do it.

I believe so, think it was one of the main reasons why Spector left after Eidos closed down the Ion Storm studio.

DUDE I LOVE the Thief games, and yeah, but the team got axed, they are spread all over now, though there were comments about in some way working together...

IMHO it was revolutionary, an FPS where the goal is really NOT to shoot anyone. in fact with no guns and only a slightly effective dagger it was also unique.

I actually just re-installed Thief III on my laptop a few weeks ago, found a widescreen patch, and am about 1/2 way through the game again :D

...

And why wouldn't you be able to do that this year?  Hmmm...?   :noid  Eager minds want to know.

The JP version is being released this year and due to the localization process, it won't be released in the West until 2010.  If anyone has a PS3, we're also releasing a JP only Blue-Ray special edition of Advent Children that will contain a playable demo of FFXIII.
