your most memorable engagment
« on: February 12, 2009, 09:28:19 PM »
This has probably been asked      but what was your most memorable engagment   1v1        i had a good one today against a rook 1ooBULL which had me trying to outhink him while he kept ripping shots at me.  ME 190 vs his P 51.  It mainly tree top level with me running for my life. The result me clipping the tree tops disabling my prop and ditchin in an open area(me landing it)  ive been play for about 2months and to me this what the game is about (that and military style strategy) is getting that rush that pilots had back then of trying to out fly the opposition. (with out the fear of losing my life).   its a BLAST TO ME

have had a few..

190F against akamixer in a p51d- great vert fight. we both used every ounce of 'e' we could massage out of our a/c and situation. in the end i lost but great fight.

109k4 vs soup(4510?) 109k4 OTD vert and turn fight. went round and round for seemingly hours on end, barley having 'e' to roll over the top and eeking out enough clearance to scrape the prop on the ground on the other side. was one we both had to level and extend a few hundred to get enough speed up to fly. too much fun.

109k against venom in a f4d (think i was a d) we went head to head 2-3 times in a row in AVA. didn't plan it that way. we were both cruising the same airspace looking for the same thing, great great fights

had many others just having a Friday moment

Back in late AH 1 or early AH II...me in an F4U-1D and my opponent in a YAK...we scissored on the deck over the ocean bleeding energy, each of us, trying for the shot...extending, pulling flaps, going WEP, dropping flaps, pulling G's to bleed energy...then back to extending, flaps up...flaps down, WEP, extend...crossing....no shot...flaps up...flaps down...throttle up...throttle down...and then...in a blink...I squeeze the trigger and see hits in the cockpit...pull up flaps...hit wep...ocean waves very close...Yak still up...and then.....as I pull up flaps and extend into his kill zone...he hits the water... I was a very new AH Player.

What is memorable to me is the fight; and, the only opportunity I had for a shot, taking the shot, and being rewarded with the kill just nano seconds before my opponent maneuvered me into his kill zone before he hit the water.

What stands out to me in this fight is the words he said to me after he hit the water..."this has been the best fight I've had in AH a long time. " It saddens me that over the years I've forgotten this Gent's handle. But! I've not forgotten the fight, nor his eloquence in saluting me in a fight that in mere nonoseconds he would have won.

From this one encounter I learned not only how to win a fight, but how to lose one, with dignity.

I have had way too many good 1vs1's to pick the "best" one, I will never forget the fight I had with OlDemon I was in my Hurri and he was in his 51, he makes a pass at me, I figure he is just gonna run , nope , pulls his flaps and what begins is a great fight,  he takes me by surprise and gets the jump on me and I fought my butt off  to get out of his guns, it lasted at least 10 min. it felt like an hour, I did git the kill but only because of the hurri.

ya okay that was the best 1vs1 ive ever had.

This one time I totally like ran from Pacerr for like three or maybe even five like sectors...because he has a like high score and is obviously a better pilot. So like, I totally got in a tempest like and like ran away from his la7, like totally. It was the best moment in AH ever! My whole MEGA skwad thought it was so awesome. They like congratulated me all day while we were attacking strat factories in early war arena. like like yeah.

 :lol

Mine was with WingZero, or as he is known in my squad PickZero  :D (Sorry wing, no offense).
I believe I was in a Spit 8 and him in a N1K2. And yes, I won.
Come to think of it, shooting down a 262 piloted by m00t in my 190d9 in a fair one on one, him on the deck and me with E advantage (haha - fair, right?  :t ) stands out in my memory as well.
Like, totally dude!!!!!!!!

I'd have to say this one, from Frame III of Bougainville Privateers (January 09 FSO).

VMF-251's F4U-1swere escorting B-25s of Nightmares on a long flight to A18 alongside two other F4U-1 and 1A squadrons. We were at 25,000ft and were trailing behind the bombers. Short of the target area we encountered a couple Zeros high overhead, none of which showed any interest of engaging. We then spotted a group of bogies low that we quickly IDed as additional Zeros and rolled in to attack.

The enemy never saw us coming and on our first pass through we flamed two and scattered the rest. After about 2 and half minutes the fight was over with no losses, and six victories.

Later we engaged in a running battle with two other squadrons of A6Ms (including one protracted furball on the deck) eventually taking 20+ scalps, though our final losses were a bit heavy (four of our twelve F4Us made it home safely).

Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

Got jumped by 3 p-51b and the fight wound up on the deck. Winged one of the 51's (which caused him to go home) and was then clipped by one of the remaining 2. So I started egress back towards a friendly base.

The 51's must have though I would go down but I kept on flying working like a mad man to stay aloft. (missing part of my right wing)

Once they realized I wasn't going down, they proceeded to give chase.

Now these 2 p-51's are 400 or less firing like mad but I dragging them at such low speed they cant stay behind me. One stalls so bad he crashes into the sea. The remaining one overshoots me, and is now right in front of my cannons. I squeeze the trigger and down he goes. Made it home and managed to crash it on the bomber hanger pad.

It was so comical looking behind me watching these guys struggle to not stall, but holding down the trigger and spraying all over the place. Then the overshoot really had to make their day.
