It's amazing, but the C.205 holds at present the highest kill to death ratio in AH at 1.37.  The top three are as follows:

1. C.205 - 1.37
2. La-5FN - 1.34
3. Fw 190A-8 - 1.23

I think that everything with a decent climb rate and 2x20mm cannons can easily kill you if you look at it from the wrong side ......

LOL Flathat, now since I've now a decent 3Dcard and I can fly with decent frame rate I'll take care too to bring the ratio down  

In fact the C205 is my favorite, so i don't know if I rather should avoid to fly it, as I am a kind of in-line-drone, for respect, you know

Stats just shows that less dweebs flies it.. they fly p51 and spitfire, which really are top fighters..

Fishu, as perhaps the biggest dweeb in the history of Aces High (2 kills in Beta 1, not a sausage since), I resent that.   I only fly P-51 if I'm on buff escort or recon these days; usually I'm busy wrecking the 109 K/D ratio. However, I spent a lovely couple of hours last night flying a 205 for Bishland, coming out of F2 for the fights at F5 and F6. And I died 4-5 times for a big fat goose egg, but it was fun.

Observation: Compared to before, 205 feels like a kite with solid-fuel boosters. Don't know whether climb is objectively accurate, but subjectively it climbs very well, and when I hit WEP the response seemed immediate. And now that I've learned a little about fuel management, I can keep it in the air for those 40-minute sorties I favor (39 minutes of stooging around, followed by spot, merge, spray, pray, evade, admire parts falling off, bail out).

BTW, jarbo, that was a nice drag & bag you & the other 51 pulled in my last sortie (around midnight EST). I should have seen it coming sooner and climbed out.

There is an old saying where I come from. "Some days you get the bear, and some days the bear gets you"

Two nights ago, I flew 3 sorties (all long over 30-40 minutes each), got 3 kills and something like 4 assists, with only one ditch to my record.

Yes I fly very conservatively  

Then last night I flew 3 very similar sorties. No kills, 1 assist, and 2 deaths and a ditch.

It all evens out in the end.

hehehe everytime I fly conservatively i get jumped by a Spit being 5K higher than me (at 25k) ... gues it's one of them unchangeable online axioms...

I am with Fishu in this one. 205 is a beauty to fly, but P 51 is the best killer in the game.


P 51D record is spoiled by not so smart flying of many (yes, yes, it is more fun like that, i know  ).

I just can't agree with this, and I don't fly the P51. Being primarily a LW pilot, I have yet to see any P51 that simply dominated me. Sure, if you get 4-5 over your head you are in trouble, but it would be the same if you had 4-5 of just about anything. I think the P51 has been defanged considerably- the Spits, on the other hand...

As a new guy I know I am not up on All the long running threads....But it sure is great entertanment To read the "Best plane Arguments". All planes had their faults and strengths. Any of them in the right situation could "Kill" any other.
We have "Historical" planes with out alot of the Historical operating problems/advantages.
The mustang debate is just great  I usualy die in lw types and love the C205. But Just to add fuel to the fire...For all it's faults the 51 and the men who flew it took control of the air space over germany in 44 and 45 and did not look back.
Also If you want to realy hear people cry add the P51 to the plane set. (4-20mm)Not the b or d model. Put together current D high with P51's low and you will have a tough combo to fight aginst. For the record the P 51 out performed the 51 b&D at lower alts. There is a reason that the Recon people kept them in operation till the end of the war along side 51d recon types.

Sure, a P-51(Mustang IA). A Runstang that has 4x20mm. And then shall the supercharged planes merely laugh and stay over 20k.   The A-36A or P-51A would be more useful, they can carry bombs.
