I heard that plane was a squeak to fly 'cuz it was so unstable, too much of the weight was in the front of the plane.  Or am I thinking of another Russian fighter?

eeyup. Mig-3!

You can get a metal (die cast) 1/48th model of this plane - in two different schemes:green or white - at BJ's Wholesale Club for $11.95. They had the Ying Mat model planes on sale for Christmas and still alot of Mig-3's and Zero's left over. The 109's and 51's were long gone in the two stores near me.
