And it's not too far of a stretch to think someone might do the same from their chute.
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

I've seen it before too Saxman.  Is it really a wonder why folks shoot chutes?  :huh

For the record the guys had orders to sink the fleet at all cost and that's what they did. When the aircraft still flying had no room for others to join they bailed and watched. If you believe it was gaming the game then that's your right but it was never intended to draw flak or what ever you may believe Saxman. It was just determination to complete the mission and to the LCA and 353rd a big <S> to all.

WTG again LCA. Some will cry foul as always, but we hit the primary target and that's a fact. I'm just thinking that besides the fact we didn't have a tail gun, or ESCOURTS!!!!!!! We still managed to bust through and leave the Jap fleet in lifeboats.  :salute

See Rule #4

Sax is doing the infantile babbling?

LCA killed the fleet... Fine, WTG you're heros and saved the world!
Hooray nobody else could do that!!!

You've had more than one guy admit to being in a parachute over the fleet.
You just admitted to divebombing with B-25s.
While you're doing all this patting of your own back remember it was the 353rd that kicked the door open for you.
They took the brunt of the CAP before you arrived taking the heavy losses and using up the ammo of the CAP

There were 14 Japanese on CAP over the enemy fleet.
14-353rd pilots = 42 B-25s
20 LCA pilots=60 B-25s.

Give or take the loss of a drone that' roughly 102 vs 14.
Many of the 14 were out of ammo and some were down when you guys arrived on scene a few moments later.
So your 60 birds faced maybe 8-10 enemy at most and none of them had a full ammo load. Even with numbers like that you
had to resort to dive bombing with formations and putting parachutes over the fleet ack. I don't see what there is to brag about or take pride in. You certainly should have knocked your target out with numbers like those. But you boys seem to need it so...

WTG and by all means continue your bragging about achieving the mediocre after another squad the 353rd did the dirty work for you! WTG for bringing MA behavior to the SEA!

I don't believe anyone was comparing the LCA and 353rd, I know I wasn't, and I certainly wasn't bragging about how well we did.  If you read a little slower maybe you will understand that the only thing I was pointing out was that the reason for my bail out was the fact that I couldn't seem to maneuver my ride without any wings, not to intentionally draw ack fire, I can't speak for anyone else in the squad.

<S> 353rd, Don't let this guy make you think for a second that I was trying to take anything away from your role.  And if you read my post I'm sure you will clearly see that, I simply didn't like the accusation.

<S>  LCA    Sorry if my ignorance has taken away from your achievement.   But then again he did say I was "KWEL"..?   So I guess I got that going for me. :D   It doesn't matter what I say its gonna get twisted around anyway, I should have followed my first instinct to not reply. LOL

 :rofl

Dak you are absolutely correct, not only is it my (and the right of others)... it's just plain RIGHT.  Bailing and absorbing ack from a chute IS gaming the game.

It wasn't so long ago that someone else interpreted their order to kill all enemy planes "at all cost" and they ended up bailing out of their damaged planes, walking to a rearm point, and "carrying out orders"  :huh   We see what that resulted in, new rules for FSO.  I can only hope that the powers that be take a look at this in the same light.

 :salute Shifty for calling it.

Seeing how chute or goin down with your aircraft is of no advantage in the consideration of receiving "half points" versus full points of the loss of their aircraft, There would be only 2 reasons to bail out in an FSO.

To provide intel reports on locations size and strengths, and to divert the ack fire.  For some reason, the ack seems to see the chutes as a higher threat than the aircraft and stays focused on them instead of the aircraft.  I have no clue as to how the AI chooses its targets.

My squad has another reason to bail instead of going down with the aircraft. We keep track of our FSO stats. The fewer the deaths the better. For example here are our squad stats for 2008.

If we are going down and don't think we can ditch it we will bail every time.

Our squad keeps track of our FSO scores as well. In fact the only awards we give are for our FSO activities.
I'd be the last person to fault anybody for bailing for the specific purpose of staying alive in an FSO event.

dad,

I understand there's legitimate reasons to bail as opposed to riding your plane down. The problem is whether it was done intentionally or not bailing over a task group is TOO WELL KNOWN as an exploit. I believe .EF was turned on. That's all they needed to do, and no more problem.

But here's a solution for you: Allow the guns on the task group to be manned. That will put a stop to this practice REALLY quick when now you have 40mm BOFORS and 5" AAA batteries that aren't going to be distracted by something shiny. And maybe it will keep the level bombers, y'know, LEVEL.

Kaz,

Problem is this exploit is ALREADY very well-known from the Mains. It's why you see guys dropping troops and supplies on enemy airfields while the AAA is still up.

Is there a way things can be set up to automatically send bailers back to the tower? The log records the a bail, but doesn't leave them hanging around? At the very least, I would think bailing with intent to draw AAA fire away from other aircraft should fall under the same category of someone bailing on an enemy airfield to CAP the runways with his .45.
not always i see numbers doing it a lot to because they dont know where to drop troops

I too bailed out of my Ki84 after having my engine shot out (BigJim VF-17) did an .ef and got a successful bail so what's this arguement that hanging in the chute is "required"??? My stats showed I bailed successfully and thats it, no need to "hang" in the chute.  Not sure about buff guys argueing about it either since they get 3 lives in the FSO to fighter pilots getting one, they had plenty of time to "see" the fight if they lost THREE planes in it.  Truth is they lost 3 planes then got back on more as gunners and THEN bailed and Hung in the air if I read it correctly while the fighter jocks had to sit it out in the tower.

Other than what I have quoted above, the rest of your post can be best described by taking the "F" out of your name.

And I must say that shooting down 5 B-25's in the FSO, and you made it back to base....that's pretty good, maybe you deserve a pat on the back. Clap Clap, your our Hero  :salute
