Facinating article.  Thnx for posting it funked.  I would never guess that the spitfire would suffer the most from airflow seperation.

I now understand why the 51's intake duct was dropped below the surface of the bottom of the fuselage.

Strangely enough, it fits into some of the knowledge I picked around the car racing industry.

I think if you want to see some of the most intensly developed aerodynamics in the world today, you can find it in Formula 1 racing.  Those guys a constantly reworking their aero packages as the rules and conditions change.
