It is.

The Germans had a "travelling circus" of captured aircraft, part of KG 200, that they toured around airfields to let the pilots get a feel for what they were up against.

:O, i didn't notice that till fudg said that.  It is my understanding that the LW had a few p-51 flying close to the American bombers.  then they would attack the escorts or bombers to create confusion.

Those planes were gernerally far more valuable for research & training.

I was watching the show Dogfights about the Tuskagee Airmen, one of them talks about getting separated from the squad and headed for home low on fuel. He saw a lone Pony and formed up on it's wing, when he looked across he saw it had German markings. He considered attacking, but if he did he probably would not make it home, so he broke away.

I'm curious to know their evaluation/estimation of captured aircraft like the P-51 and P-47.  I would think that the 3-axis trim of American aircraft would leave some sort of impression, not to mention the roomy cockpits, high visibility bubble canopies, and minimal stick forces.

They did this with a captured P-38 as well near Italy.   I'm not sure if it is 100% proven.
