« on: March 22, 2009, 10:32:03 PM »
This is for all you drumming fanatics...

Just out of curiosity. Who do you think the best drummer in the world is? Ive got two drummers who I believe are the best:

1st best drummer: Neil Peart "Der Trommler" from Rush

2nd best drummer: Jimmy Sullivan "The Rev" from Avenged Sevenfold

Danny Carey is my all-time favorite.
Neil Peart is also a god.
Mike Portnoy isn't too bad either.

All "Great" choices, and hard to pick a "Best". But, my throw ins would be...

Terry Bozzio

Billy Cobham

sorry to piss in every ones corn flakes (except uptown)

John Henry Bonham, was, is, and will always be the greatest drummer to play music.

every one else is just pretending  :rock

no seriously, I know that's just my opinion and there, most likely is technically better then Bonham, but I just love his style and sound.

I must say I don't know what his name is but if you have seen a movie called "drum line" the guy who does the drum work in that is crazy awesome.

Billy Cobham
:aok

Art Blakey too

I helped set up Peter Gabriels Secret World tour and took a break every afternoon just so I could listen to Manu warming up, got to play his kit too for soundchecks, sounded quite good through a 50k turbosound rig :D

Portnoy is good, but like a machine, no soul.  Bonzo had a fantastic heart and played with great abandon and feeling, but was not technically great by today's standards.  Peart is technically fantastic while also maintaining a very human feel but is disqualified for being Canadian, therefore my pick is Buddy Rich.

Ya know this kinda thread makes it easy to spot who the drummers are.  :aok

You guys have some great entries.  How bout adding this bunch:

  • Wells Kelly
  • Bernard Purdie
  • Steve Gadd
  • Dave Garibaldi
  • Omar Hakim
  • Rod Morganstein
  • Richie Hayward
  • Jo Jo Mayer

There are so many.  I kept it brief
