Fokker DXXI

The Fokker DXXI was an early war dutch plane.  It was used by Dutch, Finnish, and Danish forces in World War 2.  It may not look it but it must be relatively good since it was widely superior to the 109E, and for dutch forces shot down roughly 30 aircraft, in Finnish forces, over 200 aircraft.

Where is your proof? It seems like a nice plane, +1.

Your figures show it to be ~70mph slower, with an inferior rate of climb. 4 .30 caliber MGs are not exactly instant death either.

The Fokker is lighter, so perhaps it's wing loading allowed it a better turn rate than the 109?  <shrug>  In 1939/1940 fighter tactics were rapidly evolving from WWI-style angles tactics into slashing, high-speed energy tactics.  I'll bet that there must have been some 109 pilots who found out about that to their cost, when they tried to dogfight the DXXI.

The Bf-109E-1 was armed with 2 x 7mm machine guns in the nose and 2 x 7mm machine guns in the wings.  It wasn't until the E-3 was introduced that 109s regularly carried MG-FF 20mm cannon.

Still, I say bring on the Fokker!  We can always use more early-war birds, for better historical match-ups.

Reminds me of a D3A, always a fun plane to dog fight with, so I'm all for it.

There's some Finnish Air Force "here-say" which claimed that Blenheim actually outturned the Fokker D.XXI. :) True or not that should put things into perspective. :) Emil wasn't exactly a turny ride either but saying that Fokker D.XXI was "widely superior" is just an illusion. :)

I'm all for getting as many of the early war birds as possible. Realistically the Hawk 75A-2 (and possibly the -4) would see more scenario use since it was used by both France and Finland...

Im all up for it!

Do note that of the roughly 30 aircraft shot down, most were Ju-52's and recce-aircraft.
Although I think it would make for a nice fight against the 109 (early models).

Another nice Fokker would be the G1, I've heared that one actually was superior to the 109!

I think a Dewoitine D.520, or Yak, or a I16 might be a better addition to the early plane set than a limited use Fokker.
