If I was younger I'd buy that High Cap .45 for duty carry. As it stands I'll retire with my P-220.

I have the Mil-spec 1911 I bought when I competed years ago. The thing shoots like a dream.

I was able to get out to the range on Monday. Put 90 rounds of winchester white box(230gr FMJ) through it (not much of a test, more of a starting off point) without the slightest hiccup. Wish I was able to pick up more rounds for it then 100 prior to taking it out, but at least I got to see what I'm dealing with. Very nice gun, also quite accurate. I was hitting cans off of the berm at 25 yards after 40-50 rounds. May seem a little juvenile, but I swear full off-brand soda cans are just about the most fun targets you can get on a budget. Shoot-N-See in indoor ranges, "shoot and explode" on outdoor ranges for me :)

My friend also brought out his new bolt action 7.62x54. Metal baseplate. Not sure of the make or model, but the stamp on it says it was made in 1954. Wanna hold that baby tight, lol...he made that mistake on his last shot with it.

He had some flat lead-tip rounds for it.....I hit my old outdated liscense plate with it from 25 yards and it damn near blew it in half. Fun rifle!

On a side note, one of the "old timers" at the range that day brought along his .22LR Smith and Wesson pistol. 10+1. Not sure on the model number. Man o man is that thing a shooter. Absolutely no recoil to mention, can shoot it without your ears on, and dead-bang accurate at 25 yards. If I wasn't looking into Kimber(as a ccw option) after seeing replies to this thread, one of those might just be my next purchase. Heck, it may even be my next. Believe the price point on them new is around $300. And it would be absolute cake to pass the ccw course with one.

One realization I did come to though. Buying a firearm is alot like getting a tattoo. You don't stop at one. Once I get a small stockpile of .45 ammo in preparation for the zombie apocalypse/home defense scenarios, I'll look at picking up something else :D

This may be a stupid question, but I'll ask it anyways. I left myself 10 rounds out of the winchester white box so I wouldn't be completely dry once home. Thus far I've been keeping both of my XD mags with 5 in. None in the chamber....Should I stick to 2 5 rounders or just put all 10 into one magazine? The 2nd magazine (2x 5 rounds) is always within arms reach of the gun.

Well, ppl have their own preferences, to be sure..
I own a large selection of pistols, carried them all
at one point or another.. 45's, 9mm's, 357's, 44's, etc..
Auto's and wheelgun's, short ones, long ones, stainless,
parkerized, blued and alloy, old style and new fangled...

My age, and experiences with the ugly side of life, have
brought me to the conclusion, that what really matters is
your willingness to use the weapon when the situation
demands it... Not what kind of pistol you carry... Mental
prep, and knowlege of your legal limitations, and liability,
is FAR more important, than punching holes in paper...
THIS IS GOSPEL!!!

Been thru a few military and civilian bullet swapping contests,
so I know what I'm talking about... Been there, done that!

I'm a simple no BS kinda guy.. Very mellow, good natured, but I
Don't take alot of crap from ppl... I'm a BIG guy as well, USMC Ret, and
I NEVER allow someone to foist their will upon me... NEVER!!!
Violent altercations have always been between myself and 2 or 3 ppl,
(bringing their buddies is the only way the weasles stand a chance)..
And I have always walked away,(sometimes bleeding and limping),
but always under my own power..

For the last 10 years, I have been carrying a 410gauge 2 shot
derringer... Fits in my pocket, and the palm of my hand.. When my
alarm hairs on the back of my neck start standing up, I casually slide
my hand into my pocket, and just wait patiently, until 1 of the fools
comes within arms reach.. (Idiots always have the need to, "get in your face")!
The ultimate stupidity! Then grab them by their adams apple, and ram
the derr into their eyesocket... Then ask him, and his buddies, to
make their choice... Again, speaking from experience!!!
And you better be mentally prepped to follow thru, if they make the wrong one!!!
Because they will eat you alive if you don't!!!

Oh you so cool ...  :rofl
Dat jugs bro.

My main CC weapon is the Kimber Pro Carry CDP, Its the full size frame like a standard 1911, but a 4" bbl.makes it slightly smaller on the front end, Mine is a flawless tack driver, i have never had a malfunction of any kind shooting it ( i normally carry and shoot CorBon SD loads) it conceals well and does not "print" at all.
Just a thought if you dont like the shorter smaller grip of some 1911 compacts.

Here is the link to my model

http://www.kimberamerica.com/pistols/cdp/procdp.php

One thing to keep in mind if your going to carry, make sure you dress to carry ( if that makes sence)

FYI i have 3 full size 1911s 1 is a Wilson Combat, 1 is a Colt and the other is a Springfield. What i have learned is that you will never go wrong purchasing either these 3 or a Kimber. I see alot of 1911s at my P/T job (indoor range/gunshop) and truthfully cant remember the last time i saw a malfunction in a Springfield.Just do yourself a favor and feed it good ammuntion.

 :salute  good luck.

Im a huge Sig Sauer fan, i own the p228 p229 P220 p239  and am currently in the market for a P225, so if anyone has any leads on one please give me a shout. New would be wonderful (but next to impossible to find)  but ive learned that used Sigs are as good if not better than most new handguns of any make.(IMHO)\

Edit: Just re read my posts man i think i have a problem, thank god for the part time job, actually i dont think ive ever gotten a paycheck from the gunshop, its all reinvested  :D
