The issue at hand is simple, if he cant find a copy of his OS (normally your boot screen will have a "press F10 for recovery" option or something similar) then he either buys XP or Vista now or Windows 7 later. Since he doesn't have the money now and windows 7 is available he gets a temporary OS and doesnt have to buy an OS thats going to be replaced soon anyway.

The other option is a linux OS (I'm using mint right now) but that wont support AH without a lot of tweaking.

This is false information. Windows 7 RC will be upgradeable normally _untill_ it expires. It means that if you continue to use it without buying the legal license after the expiration date, then you'll be forced to reinstall completely. Even then you wont need to format anything else except the partition where your OS is located at (we all keep a separated partition for the OS just for this purpose, right?)

well, I put my "test OS software" on it's own partition..yes thought that is how it suppose to be done

and , Windows RC 7 starts "Warning" in MArch 2010 with its  autoshutdown every 2 hours.......it actually Expires in June 2010........this expiration, I assume is the beta License Key.........my thoughts anyhows........

and yes you should leave your Windows 7 "automatic windows updates" turned on.......... so it can update

Looks like there is a gaggle of removal tools out there for winibluesotf, a trojan that leads you to believe it's a spyware remover. Do a google search.

Once again, a system with AVG Free gets totally owned by viruses.

If you insist on free AV software, Avria's AntiVir product is the one to get.

If you aren't an expert in Virus removal, then a clean restart is probably a good idea, and Windows 7 even in RC form is probably a better option than Vista at this point.

If I were you, I would probably pony up $40 for Norton AV 2009 and then be prepared to call their techs for help in letting NAV clear things out before going through all the effort of reloading the OS from scratch. This assumes you aren't a computer-guy, so to speak.

I would also stop using Microsoft-based internet products on a regular basis. This means using Firefox, Safari, Opera, or Chrome for as much web surfing as you can. For mail, try Thunderbird or Opera or something like The Bat, or stick solely with webmail like Gmail.

MrMeanie........you got yourself one of them nasty Trojans.........that is redirecting or ignoring everything you search for.....

you still have a few options..but to click and paste or click on already saved links prob not gonna help ya...typing stuff in the URL bar manually  might work?

the virus has hidden itself in  a few different areas.possibly even in your memory.so everytime you reboot.it loads up before any Anti-Virus SW can help ya......

you probally gonna need to clean your registry as well..these viruses can write themselves into the registry then hide or lock itself to where it is damned near impossible to eradicate........

Llama gave you some good advice.......although I prefer my ESET Smart Security 4  over Norton..although reports say this Newest Norton2009 Llama recommends has alot less bloat than the other past versions....

I wouldn't use that system for anything personal (banking online etc.) untill it's formatted. The worst viruses are the ones that give no clue about their existence - they just sniff your traffic and send all the valuable information to bad guys.
