The Farm to Market roads (known as FM) in Texas are nicer than a lot of states highways. It is considered a friendly gesture to move aside for faster traffic. On highways the slower traffic should keep right.
Yep, and I didn't make that remark as a suggestion that you do so while visiting, especially if it's not clear where it is or isn't appropriate to do so. Just didn't want it to be a heart-attack surprise if your driver pulled off the road to let others pass :)

Then how come Texas drivers don't do it while on Arkansas highways?   :huh

Here, Interstate 30 is solid Lone Star State plates in the expresslane---with usually 5 to 7 locals racked up waiting to get by.  :(

Most of the numpties, driving like that, are transplants from other states.  We have a significant number of transplants and it takes them a long while to get used to being in Texas.  Unfortunately, us natives are slowly being outnumbered by transplants.

Toss a bowling ball through a crowd and you will be lucky to hit a native Texan.

Might be nice if some of the SE TX AH locals started listing some nice LOCAL restaraunts for him to try while in the Land of The Lone Star.  Forget the chain stuff--places with AUTHENTIC TX BBQ, Cajun Blackend Fish, gumbo, etc, that makes the locals fill the parking lots.

Authentic Mexican might be a nice try too.

So you're going to Houston.  Take a closepin for your nose and a plunger because the place is a toilet.   :rofl

Just kidding.

In all seriousness, beware of people who claim to be Aggies.  If you let these guys show you around, you'll end up waking up late this fall next to a sheep with a smile on her face.  Also, you'll find yourself doing lots of ghey cheers.  If you aren't totally brainwashed by them you may find yourself wondering why all of the cheerleaders are Male.  :huh

If cancer is your thing, be sure to check out Orange, Texas.

Viva la Houston!  :aok

The only place in TX I have needed a closepin was on I-40 W of Amarillo....HUGE ranching country, and with ranching, there is the enivitable poo.

I have some friends from the Houston/Galveston suburbs who love it.

They just don't love hurricane season.

Awe, don't be too sore. Us transplants stay once we get here because we love Texas & Texans so much :)

Making fun of the transplants?  Careful, some of them might be from your state.  Course, it takes a ^&*%$@ to recognize a ^&*%$@.

Some are for sure. I was a transplant in NC for 4 years. I loved it there, but we moved back to be close to family because my mom has been battling cancer for over 10 years.  I can sympathize with transplants. I used to love to introduce myself to a local and tell them I was from WV and have them respond "Is that near Richmond?"  :furious

Irritating I know. Possible some wannabes going to visit their relatives up north.

lol I head about a driving class where the teacher asked if anyone had ever been driving in the left lane of the highway at the speed limit and had someone come get on their back bumper. One lady raised her hand and said she has had that happen several times. She asked what she should do about it.... the teacher said.."well, get out of the way".

In the eastern part of Texas, it is very flat. Very flat. As in, you could stick a level on the ground and it would say that it was level. However, Missouri is a wonderful place to visit, just North enough to have trees that aren't in suburbs, while South enough to not be cold all year round.

But in all seriousness, Texas is a great place, especially around San Antonio. Best authentic Mexican/Hispanic food state in the country. Order the enchiladas or carne asada unless you know that the chef is the mother of the restaurant's owner.  :salute
