Check your mail.  What video card and what CPU?  Your saying the games folder so is this a Vista install?

Install for Vista
1.   Download a fresh copy of the game and HiRes pack
2.   Go to START-->COMPUTER---DBL Click C:
3.   Look and see if there is a C:\GAMES FOLDER
4a. No C:\GAMES  At the top left there is an ORGANIZE dropdown click that and choose NEW FOLDER name it GAMES
4b. Yes C:\GAMES  Open the FOLDER and Highlite the HTC Directory then hold your SHIFT key down and press your DELETE key
5.   DBL Click the AH Install (AH2131) when you get to the install directory click browse replace PROGRAM FILES with GAMES  (it will show install of C:\Games\HTC\Aces High II)
6.  No locate your HiRes and DBL click the AHHIRES213 file.  It will find the AH II install directory by itself.
7.  Check your Video Settings on the First login Clipboard make sure your have the correct settings (1024 etc etc)

You should now have the HiRes pack properly installed

I realy appreciate your help:

Spec is Vista, pentium dual core, 3gb ram, card is Nvidia 512 mb 9500GT.

But I dont understand your instructions because I am not very computer literate.

1) Do I just download a fresh copy first and I am not sure about where to route it to as the default leads to run problems but I am not sure if it works properly if it ends up in the existong games folder.
2) I can go to START but what does ---> COMPUTER---DBL Click C:     mean there is only a search option that yields nothing?
3) There is a games Folder and the ah stuff is in there and this may be the source of the problem in that maybe there needs to be a seperate AH folder which is not interered with by Vista. I have problems navigating vista and dont know haw to create a new program folder.

Please let me know where to go from here.

all you have to do is download it, click on the exe it will install,

when you load up the game go to the video options and select 1024 from the drop down,  without the hi-res pack installed 1024 is greyed out.

This will then rebuild the plane cache (boring).

The other thing to make the game look better is to set your Anti Aliasing to 4x times to begin with.

You mean save it when it gives you the option not run it which I have done and it is in the games folder but no change though I have set 1024.

Maybe I should just try downloading it again?

I will try setting the Anti Aliasing to 4X.

Thanks for your help :D

if you have the option to select 1024 textures from within Aces high video options it is installed.

You have to set AA on your gfx card settings not in game.

Ge 9500 may not have the power to run high-res texture pack...

If you get stutters/hitches as textures load when you see new objects or new planes enter range, turn it back down to 512 (or lower if needed).

I think it runs ok but I am already wondering if I should have got a better card.

Didn't happen on our family's computer. Fresh install and the first texture size selected was 1024.

Yarbles, cpu, motherboard, memory, work in conjuction with each other.  Long ago, I bought a new graphics card.  No result on my end.  Nada.  Did the same thing with memory.  Again, no benefit in the game.

There is a right way to go about it.  If you're not all tech'ed-up, farm out upgrades or rebuilds to someone who knows their stuff.  Tildeath, here in AH has a GREAT reputation.

Now, to end on a happy note, when I phoned HTC back in 2002 or something like that, got a recommendation for a motherboard.  I bought a CPU and memory to compliment it along with a graphics card etc.  Worked well.  But, I say that if I knew back then someone like Tildeath, it would have come out better.
