Ok, I am assuming you installed the OEM version of Vista on it, while the laptop is from HP.

HP has a very bad habit of overloading computers with all manner of products gauranteed to suck the performance right out of them.  It being a laptop, it is already working with a handicap as power management is also killing the performance as well.

You will need to spend a lot of time cleaning up the laptop in order to get back some of its lost performance due to bloat added by HP.

OK first, I'm no computer tech, so that this with a grain of salt......

Your PC has a good processor, but only 1 gig of ram, and the video card has no memory of its own, but uses memory from your ram. This is why it plays ok, but the graphics suck. Vista is a resource hog so it uses a lot of ram... like a gigs worth. That and sharing the ram for graphics hurts your PC.

Your notebook has more ram and a better graphics but it still is using some ram there as the shared number showes. The processor on the other hand is only half as fast as the PC's. So your graphics look better, but the machine is slow.

Ram is cheap, and a half decent video card is too. $150-200 will make your PC a decent machine....not stella, but decent. The notebook could be playable as is, but you'll have to knock the processes down as low as you can get.... mid 20's is nice. (hit cntrl, alt, delete and click on the processes tab to see in the lower left corner how many you have running.  AlacrityPC is a good program to use to temporarily turn off processes to run your computer. Its free and makes no real changes to your computer, so if you turn off something you shouldn't, just reboot your computer and it's all back to the way you started. It also has some recommendations on what to leave running as you mouse over them in the program.

amariani my laptop is not used for gaming, mostly for my wife to track the endless amounts of ebay bids she has lol. It was a good performer out of the box and ridding it of all the HP adware basically just made it better.

I use my desktop for AH, it has a quad core, 4G ram, ATI 4870 card, Realtek HD audio system that is really cool, (can do lots with it) and a Terabyte of hard space. Yes it also has vista and much to the dismay of others I never have had one issue and I love Vista to boot. I run the game and nearly all others at full boar.

Fugitive hit it on the head, you need to get some more RAM and a nice video card. Doesn't have to be fancy. I had an ATI 4650 that did just fine and would me more than sufficient. It was only like a $100 or so when I bought I think. Your processor is fine. Just improving the RAM and your vid card will show you noticeable improvement. A upgrade to your sound card would help as well.
