Isn't there a Japanese C-47? Or is that just to compensate for a Japanese plane that was a lot alike it?

IIRC both the Japanese and Russians had licences to build their own versions of the DC3/C-47. The Japanese version was called L2D2 'Tabby' and Russian version was Li-2.

Yep you are correct.  The Russian version had a turret on it.  The Japanese version looks the same  Great photo out there of one going down to a B24's guns.
