Ok, this is Sweeden's Saab J 21 fighter. It's so crazy, it could be uber.

Sexy aircraft. This sentence confuses me though;

"Additionally, though "pusher"-type engine designs were being tossed about by American and German engineers, the Saab 21 was the only pusher engine design to ever see active service in the war - even though it appeared toward the end of the conflict in June of 1945."
Not only did Germany surrender in May, but Sweden was neutral.

I know, I don't get it either. While it may be confusing, I've found this site to be reliable around 98% of the time. And I think sweeden didn't wan't to get left in the dust so they made an uber aircraft.

497 mph isn't that fast for a jet... and that website isn't that great... lists the Bf 109E-7 as having a DB 605A and being the definitive model of the series...

"Bf 109E-7 - DB 605A engine; 1 x 20mm cannon firing through propeller hub; 2 x 7.9mm machine guns in engine cowling; 2 x 7.9mm machine guns in wings."

I had a friend growing up that had a model of the j-21, I always liked it.

no a plastic scale model, had an awesome paint job, his grandfather built it for him ir something like that.

I like this one better, the fokker DXXIII the prototype flew in 1939, there were no production aircraft when the netherlands were invaded though..

     I hung a plastic scale model of a J21 off my dorm room ceiling when I was in
the air force.  Apparently it was one of the first aircraft to mount an ejection seat.
Mine was the prop version though.

Cool-looking design.   I wonder if they meant to say "see active service during the War..."  rather than "in" the War.   Neutral countries still fielded air forces which patrolled their air space, intercepted wayward aircraft, defectors, etc.      Still doesn't get around the May/June issue though, unless they are using August 1945 as the end date for the War?
