Perhaps a synthetic version of imortality?  Flash an ISO copy of your entire brain's memory and function into an artificial brain and jump start it...  Would it be alive?  I'm sure it would argue that it was...

Interesting...definatly IF (and thats a big friggin IF ) would you still have a soul? yes all your memories and experiences are there but is your soul? does your memories and experiences = the sum of WHO you are?

another thought- what if in the d/l process you get a fw corrupted files? can you just remove program? reboot and all is well?

I've actually been throwing around ideas for a work of fiction based on this excact premise for a couple of years.  The thought of "soul" would definitely play a major role role in it.    The idea originally came to me when I was playing with my Line6 computer software.

Bernard Williams wrote a great article about brain switching, body switching and personal identity.

Talking about a soul here makes this topic sound like a campy hollywood movie.
