Wow, from The First layer of Hell to the Fifth Layer of hell!   You traded low speeds and low ping for high speeds and high ping.  Unless suddenly Hughes Net suddenly went cable you went with the worst internet for online gaming, Satellite.  The speed upgrade will be nice though. :)

A few things you should know about Hughes Net: The Internet will go out if bad weather arrives, Ping will be in the 800-2000 Range (Online gaming recommends 0-300), You'll pay stupid amounts, and the worst You have a Bandwidth limit.  That last one is one you Must pay attention to, if you exceed that, the connection will slow almost to a stop for 24 hours, and after too many times will cancel your internet.

Sorry, but I despise Satellite, We have had it for a few years now as no one will extend coverage.  So, good luck, and I hope that Hughes Net is not the Hughes Net I think it is.

I mean, I dont play as much as used too, and football starts in a week. If it wasnt for AvA, Friends, FSOs, Scenarios and SEC. I wouldve quit a long time ago. Most of the time I get on, I just talk and fly around with friends. So it wont be to bad.

Fudgums,

I've had hughesnet for 5 years plus. (no choice as it's the only reliable internet for full time RVer's) I was also an installer for it for a couple years. Forget gaming, you have a 2 second lag. You will not enjoy trying it, believe me I did try it. If the lag doesn't piss you off enough it will certainly piss off those who are near you online. Hughesnet is great for surfing but it is no good at all for gaming.

Two things to note about it:

Warping:  You won't see it 9 out of 10 times, I have yet to figure out why it does this, but the warping is seen clearly on the other end.

Bandwidth:  Gotta be mentioned again since Hughes Net has a reputation for not telling people about it.  You have a Daily Cap of around 500Mb* I believe, exceed that and your back to dial-up speeds for 24 hours in a "rest period".  If you continue to to use the internet to much during that period it will take another 24 hours to "rest", do it too many times overall and they will cancel your Internet.  Careful on the Streaming (Videos, Audio) and with Big Downloads, they eat that 500MB up fast.

*500MB is the cap for the highest available package as of January 2009.  Between ~2-3am is a "free zone" when Bandwidth is not in affect.

Bandwidth limit is suspended between 3 AM and 6 AM EST. It also seems that it may extend from 2 AM as well lately. For most browsing and downloading the lower limits aren't going to be much of a problem unless you do download movies and such. They also FAP (fair access policy) you if you are online and using the sat solidly for more than an hour straight (no breaks in data transmission) even if you do not exceed the data limit. It sounds strange but it happened to me on a download from a slow upload site for a game upgrade.

If it works for AH I am absolutely amazed but I bet that those around you in the game will be seeing massive warps from your plane.

Once I tried playing a few minutes on America's Army on an empty server to test the lag. Shooting the wall had the bullet hole showing up 2 seconds after I hit the trigger.
