Fifteen dollars could feed rice to a family of four, for a month.

If that's a problem, he could use the fifteen dollars on a taxi to the employment office (where he'd find nothing); too bad he didn't graduate high school, go to college, get a master's degree, and be retired, here laughing at the poor, poor, imbeciles.

It's always so nice when people without a single fact make rash opinions and generalizations.  I don't like to air my personal laundry in public to derive sympathy from people I don't even know but this totally offends me.  I graduated High School, but no, I didn't go to college.  It wasn't as important back in 1974 as it is now.  I went to work and have held a job ever since.  I currently work for the state of North Dakota at our Penitentiary where the criminals have cable tv, cd players and Nintendo game cubes in their cells.  They have a track to run on, horseshoe pits, a softball diamond, handball courts, football, soccer, indoor basketball courts, volleyball, weight rooms, crafts, free clothes, food and medical, dental, and eye care.  Probably forgot a couple of things, but all paid for by my taxes.  My wife has Rheumatiod Arthritis and Lupus and is currently being treated for kidney failure.  Obviously, she can't work.  The government says she is not disabled, so I support our family of three in our crackerbox house with one car on my salary alone.  I'm good with all of that as I love my family, sorry if I sound a little grumpy that I can't partake of my favorite past time.  Next time, walk a mile in someone elses shoes before you shoot your mouth off.

I wish I only had a to replace a vid card.  I have a 2.6Ghz processor, 2GB of RAM but only a 175 watt power supply.  Can't upgrade the power supply because the power supply connects to the mobo with a proprietary connector and Compaq doesn't make a 400w power supply for my machine.  My vid card only has 128mb of ram and the 512 cards require 400w power supplies.  I may be wrong but I don't think there is much hope of getting much more out of my card.  That being said, I'll try anything because I really love this game.  I think about playing all day at work for God's sakes, good thing I'm not addicted.  Thanks so much for your suggestions and support, it definitely is appreciated.

or the uneducated.  It goes both ways.  My comment is not directed at any particular post, just a comment to an opinion.

rkanjl  I'll be on Ventrilo this evening. I asked Daddog to make an update tech channel. I'll try to help you get a little more out of
your system and maybe make it a little more playable.

Hope that's not being directed at me.  I assure you I have been down the rocky road a time or two.

So, well here you are. :cry Yeah my system rocks and the game looks great.  :rock But I am not running a quad core. there is plenty of info here in the forums on what works.  Instead of complaining and threatening to quit (which won't allow you play) you should be focusing on how to fix the problem. The whining here will not improve your frame rates. Look into your systems and figure out what is the bottleneck. Get a paper route, save your change, be creative. All this I can't stuff and I quit garbage is pretty defeatist. Maybe its as simple as downloading the new textures. Maybe its checking the video settings in the first menu? Could it be a graphics setting in the game? FFS some of you guys are in need of some serious motivational improvement.  :rofl

Well this thread got ugly, skipped about 2 pages and I don't think I'll be looking back. Rather lets start this off how it should of. Rkanjl if you can, a DirectX Diag. report would be a good first stop to try and help ya out.

This thread is also worth checking out. http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,270010.0.html

It's impossible to make out how close you are to the ground or water.  I just don't think this is worth the $15.00.  Got some serious decision making to do.  :cry

I am running an ATI x300 or 600 on a middle aged machine.  I had to turn the graphics down, but I got 50-75 fps.  Initially, I had a problem picking out planes against the ground while looking down.  I had to increase my Gamma (whatever the heck that is) to 1.5 from 1.  It brightened the screen in general.

Tweak your settings a little.  Hang in there.

I'm sympathetic to everyone who can no longer play, and understand dropping a thousand bucks on a new system just isn't an option for many right now.

That said, try to be optimistic, and work out a plan...

1. Try posting your dxdiag, etc., in a tech support forum and giving HTC a few weeks to try to resolve your problem;
2. See what suggestions other members have for possible upgrades;
3. Figure out how much those upgrades would cost, and cancel your account until you can afford them.

You never know.  Your problem could be something that $60-90 might help.  That's 4-6 months out of the game.  It may seem horrible, but a 4-6 month break might actually be an interesting experiment for some of you.  I take long breaks all the time, and it makes the game seem a bit more fresh for awhile when I come back.  4-6 months of an extra few hours spare time might also help you earn a bit more money, either with overtime, or even just turning some hobbies/odd skills into petty cash.  Or, it could help you reconnect with the loved one who resents your playing this game :)

Look on the bright side as best you can, and good luck.

Actually 1Gb video cards perform WORSE in general than thier 512 mb counteparts.  I have rarely if ever seen a 1Gb card with equal or faster memory bandwidth (the amount of data which can be transferred into and out of video card memory over a specific length of time... typically expressed in Gb/sec.) than the same card with 512 mb of memory.  In addition to this the 512 cards typically also have faster GPU clock speeds.

Furthermore, a 32 bit operating system will only recognize between 3.25 and 3.75 Gb of system RAM in total which includes the video card memory.  Unless you only have 2 Gb of RAM installed a 1 Gb video card is simply stealing 512 mb of allocable RAM from the rest of the system.  Finally, even if you were running a 64 bit operating system no 32 bit application is allowed by Windows to utilize more than 2 Gb of RAM.  Therefore running a 1Gb video card leaves you wilth 1Gb of system RAM available to the game.  In a game such as AH which is more CPU/system dependent than GPU dependent this can cause a serious degredation in performance.

1 Gb video cards are a marketing ploy for the uninformed.

Just thought I'd set the record striaght.

You are correct but if he is running a low end machine and has crap for a video card and alow amount of ram and he adds in the 1 gig card it is essentually upgrding a couple of different aspects of his machine, so in his machine it is the one thing that he did that is allowing him to play the game.

You don't need a top end computer to run it at max detail, not even close.  Stop with the lies.

Yes, you do need a semi-decent video card, that is all.  Maybe $75-150 and you are all set unless your computer is seriously ancient.

My computer is almost four years old now and runs the game at 1920x1280 and max detail without any problems.

Yeah, because fifteen dollars requires some real serious decision-making, Mr. President.
