Things you can do to help with Running the new patch...
« on: August 02, 2009, 07:34:04 AM »
OK, I see a lot of crying on the boards from people that can not run the new patch. Here are some very simple things you can do that will help your computer run better and hopefully improve your game play.

First
Ensure you have the latest video card drivers and Direct X installed on your PC. Ensure you uninstall the OLD drivers prior to installing the new ones. While many times you will find no problems in installing over old drivers, it can and at times will give you unwanted side effects. So always make an effort to uninstall the old before you install the new.

If for whatever reason you where playing fine, updated your drivers and are now having problems, revert back to the driver version prior to the one you are currently using. Drivers are always archived for quite some time by Video card companies. Make use of these tools as you should. Sound and Motherboard drivers should be updated just a frequently. These are patches to the software that run your computer and often are in an attempt to make you computer run faster and with less effort.

Secondly keep a clean computer. Do not run more then one anti-virus software as they will drag your computer to the ditch. McA and Norton are resource hogs, I suggest you us AVG or Kaspersky. These anti-virus programs are just as powerful as MCA and Norton but are less resource intensive. Both AVG and Kaspersky can be downloaded over the net.

I would suggest that you maintain a clean hardrive. There are many tools out there that can assist you in this matter. The one I use and suggest is CCleaner. It can be downloaded here: http://www.ccleaner.com/

Install and allow it to clean your computer and registry. Always allow the program to create and store the registry backup when you clean it. These are small things that help in keeping a faster running PC. You would be supprised at what Disk Cleaner that comes with MS Windows misses in cleaning your harddrive.

When you installed CCleaner it will put a tasking in your start-up. Everytime you start or restart your computer it will do a quick clean on the computer. This will help in keeping your computer clean day to day. I would suggest you run a full clean at least once a month. This takes no more then 30min and does not require you to monitor it until it is finished.

These are just a few things that you might try to enhance your Gaming experience in Aces High.

I am an IT technician and am very willing to help anyone that needs help in any area of their PC. Just sent me an IM or post a message I will do my best to get you up and running.

personally I'd update video drivers as a last resort after optimising system and game settings, I reckon alot of the problems people are having might be due to installing latest drivers. ymmv.

This may help some it may not i dont know. I scrood around installing my sound pack in the new release and managed to delete a crucial file to run the game. Not sure which one however since it was all boogered up i went to C drive and deleted the entire HTC folder off my harddrive restarted my computer then re- downloaded the game. Even though i had to reset everything to my likeing views, sounds, and the like i did notice alot of the problems i was haveing after originally installing the new release useing the auto-downloader went away. There are still minor glitches here and there but not as many as i had previously.

If you have downloaded all the latest drivers for youre gear and are still haveing problems this worked well for me youre experience may differ. But if all else fail give it a whirl. :salute
