something for skuzzy
« on: August 05, 2009, 06:59:19 AM »
hi,

i can run quite well    :x  ah at 1280*800 res, 256 textures. but i'm not sure about how many cores are on and if
ah takes one of them. frame rate varies from 30 to 57 with no bump terrain and no water reflex.
it varies from 20 to 40 with water reflex on too. task manager reports that system takes 50% of cpu usage and ace high about 50% of cpu usage too. number of background processess is  16. can u tell me if my pc is using well both cores? - i have some picts of cpu usage but i don't know how to post them.

ty

ps:

New AH version appears  great  :rock  WELL DONE!

The game is natively multi-threaded, so if two cores are available, they will both be used.  AMD dual-core CPU's are the only exception as there is a bug we happen to hit in those CPU's so the usually have to switch the game to run in compatibility mode, which basically restricts the game to one core.

Is it just my perception, or are the vast majority of the problem-systems posted AMD-based? I had 3 of them in a row, went back to Intel

I have not bought Intel since the P-60 with the floating point problem. At some point they all seem to have one issue or another. Not much difference either way.... same with vid cards.

That thought struck me too after reading quite a few of peoples' error and problem reports and scanning their dxdiag's. Nothing scientific about it, just my perception.

Due to the bug we happen to hit in AMD's dual-core CPU's, it means the game has to run on one core.  This version is more dependent on dual-core technology than the previous version, so AMD dual-core users will not get the best experience possible.

Thus more complaints.

This is compounded by OEM manufacturer's who use the slowest, cheapest RAM available, which serves to exacerbate the problem.

What is the opinion of the Intel two core duo processor?

I have an E8500, 8800GT, Asus P5Q-E, get 59 frames all day long, and refreshingly, NO squirrely problems, wasn't very expensive (esp since Karaya GAVE me his old 8800 :aok) Most of it is 1-2 years old on the market

I was not stating an opinion.  We are also not the only application that runs into the AMD bug.

The multi-core Intel CPU's work fine.
