I don't know why you guys keep torturing yourselves with threads like these when you know the answer already.

What is the best fighter?  What is the best looking fighter?  It's easy...it's this plane.

Well, he only said "aircraft," so bombers would be ok...  Of course, if we're going with a post-Corky standard for the 38, I still don't think it qualifies :D

 Bf109, no contest.

 Restored Bf109G, test flight

It may not have been the best fighter, but when it comes to looks... nothing comes close.

 US planes are clumsy pigs
UK planes are like ducks with oversized wings
JP planes are like midget flies
USSR planes are smurfy radials on wood frames

Italian planes, with a long tradition of beautiful aircraft, are the only competition, but IMO a bit too sporty looking... pointy like a pencil, if you ask me.

Only the 109, holds the perfect balance. Slick, inline design with nice curves lines all around, light and nimble profile and yet doesn't feel like a dwarf, and the sinister feeling frontal profile that forms an accute "V" shape...

 Ahhhhhhhhhhhh....

  :D

While there have been many beautiful fighters; in my opinion at the pinnacle is the North American F-86 Sabre.

Yes Re. 2005 was the most estatecly pleasing airplane in WW2. But, in WW2, nothing can compare to the sleek beauty of this:

That D-13 paintjob is an abomination.  Like something a Spice Girl would wear.

We already had this topic half a dozen times, so I'll suggest some less famous but quality plane porn instead.

The Mig-9's rear looks beautiful too.  Don't have a pic of it off-hand.

Whats not to like?

Its the "John Wayne" of WW2 fighters.

"Life is just as deadly as it looks"  Richard Thompson

"So umm.... just to make sure I have this right.  What you are asking is for the bombers carrying bombs, to stop dropping bombs on the bombs, so the bombers can carry bombs to bomb things with?"  AKP
