Unfortunately you do get higher odds of pilot wound in a mossie, than you would in a single engine fighter.

There are situations in which head ons are acceptable.  You are never obligated to roll over and die for somebody else.

Times to head on:

1) You are alone and being ganged.  You need to reduce the odds against you as fast as you can, taking any viable shot is not wrong and if the gangers don't like it they can go suck eggs.
2) You are at a heavy E disadvantage, particularly in a heavy fighter like a Mossie, and the only choices you have are to be meekly shot down or to shoot him in the face.  Shoot him in the face.
3) The enemy aircraft is an Me262/Me163/bomber.

Times not to do head ons.

A) You are BnZing the other guy and he pulls up to try to HO as a desparation move, see #2.  Break off and pull up.
B) You are co-E with a single enemy that is not an Me262/Me163/bomber.  Don't be a chump, learn to fight.

Then you are a chump willing to make yourself a free kill to others in some situations.

My default is to avoid the head on, and I do most of the time, but there are times when it is the tool to use.  And it is just another tool.

FYI, it was a tool used in reality as well.

I'm down to be your wingman in a mossie anytime Junky, and yes I ho with it because I win 4 out of 5 times.  If an a6m wants to get in front of me I am farely conident I will come out no worse for the wear.  If it's a 110 I will just outfly it because the mosquito is a better fighter in most cases.  It all depends on what kind of aircraft you are facing, the mossie has many strengths and a few weaknesses.

Agreed. I will only make head ons if I am clearly going to die if I don't.
And then if I am being ganged I only even the odds down to 2-1. I usually die, but at least I die with a good concience.

Every day I get 3 or more who will HO my IL2s even tho they have every opportunity to avoid, create separation, and setup an attack profile which would leave me almost helpless. I know a lot of them are noobs but I wonder how many of them HO simply cause they dont care? Even in fighters I'd say the number of HO'ers has gone up a lot in the last year.

The Mossie is the one airplane I even avoid HOs in while in IL2s, if I can. The 4 Hispanos in the nose is THE premier HO package in the game and the airplane itself is tough enough to give you a good chance of surviving as well. The Hispanos are like the 4 20mms of the WWs. You can start shooting a long ways off and let the enemy con fly into your cannon stream.

The ROF, ammo load, and range of the 4 Mossie cannons are awsome.

Its funny but most HOs I ever see come from the attackers side when the horde descends, "usually with about a 10 to 1 advantage". :lol

When I'm flying the Mossy, I'm usually working for a front quarter shot...  Ideally one where the enemy can't also shoot back, but if I mess up and get into that situation, I might as well squeeze the trigger, since I'm not avoiding the shot in that giant target.
