Neon green panels on plane? Help please?
« on: September 11, 2009, 05:42:02 PM »
Ok...  So my gaming computer took the big dump this week.  It's pretty much a goner I think and in need of replacing.  Well, FSO is tonight, so this afternoon I installed AH2 on a laptop that I own.  Seems to be running the game ok, with the graphics turned down a bunch.  Problem is, for some odd reason, the skins don't appear to be loading correctly.  For some reason, I have these neon green panels in my aircraft (and others around me) and some ground structures (like hangars) have read panels where their skins don't seem to be loading?

Any ideas what might be causing this and how I might correct it?

Thanks in advance!

Here's dxdiag

I have also noticed that other planes have a gray square around them until they get closer.  The neon green panels change according to where I am looking.  For instance, looking out the right wing there is a green panel near the end of the wing, if I shift views so I am looking right and back I can still see where the green panel was, but it is correctly skinned.  Same goes for the tail.  Looking straight back I see a neon green tail...  Looking back and left and I get the skin back.  I have also noticed that skins/textures on the ground appear red occaisionally.

I hope someone knows an easy fix, game is unpleasant to play like this.  It's very distracting.

Sounds like a combination of video driver and lack of enough video memory.  I'm not a hardware guru, but it looks like you only have 128Mb of video memory - the rest is shared with your system memory.  This is pretty much the norm for a laptop.
My Current Rig:
GigaByte GA-X99-UD4 Mobo w/ 16Gb RAM
Intel i7 5820k, Win7 64-bit
NVidia GTX 970 4Gb ACX 2.0

Actually, Intel video chips never have dedicated video RAM.  They always steal RAM from system RAM.

Just need to make sure the only options checked in the "Options->Graphic Detail->Advanced" panel are "Bump Mapping", and "Detailed Water".

Also, the "Maximum Texture Size" in the "Video Settings" must not be any higher than 256.  The video resolution should not be higher than 1024x768 either.
