destroyable foilage
« on: September 20, 2009, 06:03:32 PM »
For an example...say your in a gv, ur rolling along and there's a bush or tree in the way u hit it and stop dead in your tracks. I had this happen to me,to a freind and too my squad of 20 also, if your in a plane and drop a bomb or fire a rocket and hit a tree the tree should come falling down followed by a big POOF.

Such things can't be done, because if they were destroyable, each and every shrub would have to be updated continuously to every player....and your 50 frames drops down to 8-10, as it did on the original Trinity with TT in the middle.....pity

I like the idea, but understand the limitations that may keep it from happening.  So a +1 if it can be done with minimal FR impact.  Please do not blow up shrubs willy-nilly, some of them might contain friends! :D

"Veeeeery interesting!"

:D
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

It wouldn't have this issue, but it is basically impossible for the server to track damage for each and every tree on a map.  Yes, they would need damage tracking or do you think one 20mm hit should destroy a tree or that 100 should not?  There are a great number of trees and bushes on each map, so many that I don't want to guess the true number, but it is surely in the millions.  Reporting a tree as destroyed to the FEs in the area is trivial in comparison to the database work needed to track the damage.

Yeah, no pornography, offensive text or links, or attempts to bypass the profanity filter. But I didn't do any of that. Unless I unknowingly bypassed the profanity filter, then I don't think I broke any of the rules. Did I?
