Why is it that...

when something new comes out in the game, and a thread is started on the bulletin board telling the newws, etc., some of you guys just can't reply to it, you have to start your own thread saying just about the same thing as the other ones? Why do we do this?

DJ, your falling down on your job!  :)

You ever start talking about anything one subject to , say, a co-worker?  In 10 min., that subject covers about 4-6 issues within it.  Its called 'conversation'.  You say "I caught a fish!"  I say "Cool, you go out on a boat?"  you say "Yes, friend bought a new bayliner"...I say "Oh, Bayliner, I would have bought a Four Winds myself, better outdrive"...you say "I prefer I/B to an outboard"....etc.etc.etc.

Ah... don't you just love it when someone else takes the heat for something you really wanted to say?  Its almost as fun as jumping in and giving them crap for saying it.

I dunno Rip... how about this:

HTC announces the Mossie.  I saw the news and came to this forum to look for reaction.  I found a thread about the news and posted to it.  By the time I was done, 3 other threads started saying the same thing.

Is it a big thing?  Not really.  Does it add to the ammount of crap that people wade through on the BBS?  Yep.

...and don't even get me started on "1.08 is out!" threads.  Boy... I never get tired of that one!

I have noticed over time there is an "in" crowd here. Even an important topic is generally ignored (little or no replies) and the post falls further down the list. Eventually, one of the "in" crowd makes a post about that topic saying the exact same thing and it gets a ridiculous number of replies (ostensibly form the rest of the "in" crowd  ;)). I have noticed this tendency whether the post is about a new release or the discovery of a giant squid at the center of the MA map.

I am not trying to whine, just pointing out my own observation as it pertains to the topic at hand.

Streak, when a top exective on Wallstreet speaks of upcoming interest rate cuts, a few publications listen, print it. When Greenspan speaks of upcoming interest rate cuts, the world listens.   :)

Kinda sorta on topic, I can't tell you how many times I seen posts in the gameplay forum that repeats over and over again a suggestion that has already been suggested by numerous others over the last (already 2 years!) 2 years.

Aside from HTC employees, who in here truly rates "Alan Greenspan" status?

Yes there are certain veterans whose opinions should be respected, but there are certain other veterans whose opinions are just as invaluable as some hotheaded newbie. I don't see any labels in here that certify who is worth listening to. The rating system, well, that is as effective as the Florida voting polls  :D

I decide to read a post based on the topic, and reply based on the content, and at best note who thought what. The funny thing is even when I have the webpage scrolled to center the text, I can still tell who is writing the replies. So many of the posting entities out there have very distintive styles and consistent agendas.

Does it really matter who posts "1.xx is out" first? I check the news before I come here anyway, I would think most would do the same. So why post it... anymore than one time in the discussion area  :p

I don't want to tell people what to post and what not to post. I believe there are plenty of regulars who are already policing what topic belongs where and who should be booted  :D I am just curious about the logic of those doing some of the posting. If I understaned their reasoning, maybe I will agree with them and practice their approach as well  ;)

The beauty of these boards is that for the most part, people are free to do as they wish, which provides some interesting insights to the psychology of people in general, and our opponents and teammates in particular. It never hurts to understand the motivations of the people around you. Of course the real trick is to understand yourself.

Next 25 posts is all about 109 instead of the orginal subject!!

No one, the comparison was one of when you are familiar with a name, and when you are not familiar with a name.
