I never got any pictures of my 67 Hemi GTX .. was 19 then, dint own a camera, everytime I got back in town from workin Survey crew I'd wash it, wax it, get ready for friday-saturday nite Central Avenue.

I paid 2700 for it, it had 20k miles on it, right off Sunland Mercury's lot out in Glendale.

She was cragar S/S's, copper metallic with matching interior, firestone cheaters on the back, 4 gear .. first car I tunnel rammed .. learned how to keep her tuned from a friend who ran a hemi slingshot dragster out at Beeline Dragway ..1969 was the summer ..a good summer.

You could hear that car from 3 blocks away thru the stock exhaust ..it was music.
Got 4mpg cruisin.. and when you punched it you could see the gas gauge go down.
I spent 10 bucks a nite in gas, and it was 25 cents a gallon then.

It ruined me for life .. I got so hooked on the whole car thing :)

IIRC, a 1973 XB GT Ford Falcon Coupe originally, with a Concorde front end.   The Supercharger I also believe was "non-functional" and for looks only.

i miss the days when you could drive somethign like that on the street, light enough traffic to enjoy it, and the police admired it, rather than targeted ya in it and harrass ya for it, like they generally do now.

Driver attitudes have changed.

ya, they have....and i realize that's part of the police officers change in attitudes.......but they can see who's driving.

i'm an almost old fart. they could see that when i was driving my mustang.....yet they'd follow me, and on occasion pull me over, just "because". i wasn't doing anything wrong. speed limit, not weaving traffic, etc. it was just a loud crazy fast car.

Here is my old car.  1998 TransAm.  Nifty little car, grossly underrated HP numbers from GM.  They said 305hp, but guys were getting 295 at the wheels bone stock so the real numbers were somewhere around 350hp at the crank.  Open up the intake and exhaust and you'd get another real 20-30hp at the wheels.  Some of the early ones got the vette cam (they're called "freaks") and some other vette parts, because of problems with the supply chain producing the de-rated parts.  Those cars were delivered with somewhere around 30 extra hp and responded even better to simple intake and exhaust mods.

The fastest I ever had it was 150 and it was still pulling, but I ran out of excuses to keep going since the mustang GT I was racing had given up at 135.  He dropped it into 3rd at around 80mph and I could hear the clang inside my car :)  I was lazy and just left it in 5th gear... that's an overdrive gear...  while he rowed through the gears.  That meant he thought he had a chance as we were dead-even until about 110 when my rpms finally started getting into the torque band, and then I just walked away from him.  At 135 I finally got some power down and just took off, so he lifted.  I was accelerating so good though I kept my foot in it to 150 before lifting.

Like GE's vette, it gets 30 mpg on the freeway, except I have to keep it around 65 to get that 30 mpg because of the crappy gas additives they use now.  Back in 1998, I got up to 34 mpg at 65.

Unfortunately it's time to sell it.  I love the car and there isn't really anything wrong with it, but I can't fit 2 child seats and 2 adults in it at the same time, so it has to go.  Damn.  It still beats pretty much any stock mustang in autox, and I never even modded the car beyond putting in koni single-adjustable race shocks.  A front swaybar would have made it a bit easier to drive especially in slaloms during autox, but at the expense of a little bit of sustained turning grip, so I never got around to doing it.

I've "replaced" it with a Pontiac G8 GT, also red.  No cool pictures of that one yet though.

Recently I was driving my Mustang coming home from a date at 2am.  Pass a cop going the other way and he pulls a 180 to follow me..I wasn't doing anything wrong so I wasn't worried.  By the time he caught up I was going 45 in a 45 and he gets so close to my rear bumper I can't see his headlights.  So when it turned to 55 I bumped my speed up to 60, thought maybe that would back him off....nope still riding my rear.  About a mile ,total of about 2.5 miles, of that i just put on my turn signal got on the brakes hoping he would just pass me.  Pulled off the side of the road and stopped and he stopped in the road.  He then turned on the cherries and pulled in behind me.  So he walked up behind my car and I rolled down the window.  Conversation went something like this:

Cop: Something wrong?
Me:  Nope just wanted to know why your riding my ass
Cop: Well I couldn't read your licence plate because the cover was causing a glare
Me:  Well is it illegal to have a cover?
Cop: nope..but they do make it hard to read the plate
Me: OK so instead of following me so close why not just pull me over?
Cop: We have the right to follow people
Me: OK so why indanger our safety by following so close at highway speeds?
Cop: can I see your information?
Me: sure <hands licence and regrastration>
-he never goes back to his car and hands my papers back to me-
Cop: Just wanted to make sure everything was in order
Me:  Are you sure that the red mustang had nothing to do with it
Cop: <laughs> um...No

He then follows me for about 5 miles staying about 1/2 miles back.  At the county line he stops and I can still see his headlights when I turn off the highway towards my town.  I know the police chef in that town and thought about saying something to him.

Good cops and bad cops.  Examples of each below - both occuring in... 2004, would have to be, because I had the black M3.

When the car was first delivered, I was so giddy I just ran off to the Fast Tags joint to get it registered, etc, etc (thats a Pennsylvania thing for those unfamiliar - you didnt actually have to go to the DMV).

It was no more than a 4-5 mile drive and, of course, I get pulled over.

Pull into a KMart parking lot (hate people who clog up the road...) and he gets out and the discussion goes like this:

LEO:  Hi there (grinning) how are you today, sir?
Me:  Fine, thanks.  How about yourself, officer?
LEO:  Good, good, thanks.  Say, did you just pick this one up?
Me:  Yup.  (now also grinning) Was delivered about 30 minutes ago.
LEO:  Where from?  (he had looked at the license plate frame walking up in prep for this question)
Me:  Missouri.  (location of dealership listed on plate frame)
LEO:  Its a nice car, my brother has one.  Is it fast?
Me:  No idea, yet, honestly.
LEO:  Well good luck with it.  Before you pull out of the parking lot however, do me a favor and go into that KMart and get some Scotch tape and stick your temp tag to the rear window.  I cant have you driving all over creation with *nothing* on your car.

DOH!  :D

...cop follows from 6 inches behind...

I know exactly what you are describing.  Ive got one better!  Had the same basic experience (sans pullover) with a twist.

Driving home from a friend's house at about 2AM.  Had not been drinking, etc, etc.  Doing speed limit as deer were active in the area.

Cop pulls out from a gas station and follows me from... I'd say 700-800 feet back.  Ok, fine.  First move: he guns it and runs up my rear, I assume, to try and get me to exceed the speed limit.

No dice.  He backs off again to 700-800 feet.

Then, get this... he turns his headlights off while he's back there.  No toejam.  Few seconds later, the headlights come back on RIGHT on my ass.  That lasted 30 seconds or so and he pulled off onto another road.

Why?  What is going through his head that results in the brain coming to the conclusion that this sort of idea is a "good" one.  "Ill just turn my lights off, run up behind an unsuspecting motorist and turn the lights back on 6 inches from their bumper!  It'll scare the b'jesus outta them!"

Ridiculous.

how many miles on it?

take it in to your shop, and have the thermostat, timing belt, and water pump(driven by the timing belt) checked if you don't know when they were done.

they very commonly go bad at around 40-50k miles.'
