Who remembers how much a custom rig in 1997-1999 cost?

I built a few systems that would have given these a run for their money in cost versus performance.

Shoot, looks like my Atari 800 could give those a run for their money if I managed to overclock it. :D

Man, I built one of my own that was not quite to those specs for way way cheaper than that back then.  I had to learn how to build my own because a pre built one was so damn expensive.  Hell, I have trouble coming up with that much cash all at once even now.

Atari 1040ST - approx $1200Cdn at the time. Came with a smashing 1 meg of RAM :lol
CPU used the Motorola 68000 chip at a whopping 16mhz!! That's right...SIXTEEN mhz....heheheheh

The 60meg hard drive the size of a VCR cost $1400!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh ya - the colour monitor was extra $$$ ( you got a monochrome with it tho)

Ahhh how times have changed.

In 1995 I got a "zeos" pentium 60 with a full 32 meg of ram, an S3-968 vid card (for the old Confirmed Kill!) and a 40 meg hard drive, for around $5000.  Going from 16 to 32 meg of ram cost $600.
Everyone I know, goes away, in the end.

Isn't that the same CPU they used in the Sega Genesis?

By the time I really started using computers in any decent manner Win98 was out, boy did I miss all the fun.

I got my first computer with Windows ME. It was a Compaq that you could change colored plates on the front of the case and around the media buttons on the keyboard. It had very tall speakers that, if you held onto the sides of the left one, would clearly pick up a radio station. :lol

A couple years ago, I was put in charge of this at school. I tell you what, playing that thing on an old manually-aligned black and white bunny-ear TV was quite a jump into the past, but it was also extremely fun. When I'd set it up in the main lab of our wing, we almost needed to start charging people to play it during lunch. :D As a reward for all my work over the four years I was there, the teacher let me have it. (He gave me the TV too, but, as you can see, it's broken. Still haven't been able to find out what's wrong with it, though. Feel free to PM me if you can help.)

(Before you guys get wise, this is what's in that little bowl. :rofl)
