I thought the B-17 was all kinds of ugly... until I just saw this!

B-57F

I always kinda liked the B-17 in the "The A-10 is ugly as sin, but I still like it" kind of way (only, sub the B-17 for the A-10). THIS plane has made me reconsider the B-17. Maybe it's not so bad after all?

It may be ugly but its one cool airplane! The Canberra was the replacement for the aging B-26 and the E model was a transition from bomber to reconnaissance and it could fly higher than any Mig. But this F model was the first 'U2' type aircraft. What makes it so ugly is the wingspan and chord but this was the airplane that first filled the role of 'Manned Satellitte in Orbit' and was one of the first Air Weather Service aircraft to ever penetrate a Hurricane AND film it from above. My favorite role though is nuclear monitoring where this plane flew into Russian airspace and took samples from their nuclear tests... man I hope thats been declassified!  :D
If you like the Sick Puppy Custom Sound Pack the please consider contributing for future updates by sending a months dues to Hitech Creations for account "Chalenge." Every little bit helps.

In 1961 my father and my family were relocted to Peshawar Pakistan. The Air Force had a command and control station outside of Peshawar while they used an unmarked airstrip near the Peshawar city airfeild for spy plane operations. He was a russian radio chatter translator with SAC for launching RB57 and U2 out of Pakistan. This was the same base Gary Powers was launched from in 1960 when he was shot down. That may be the same location the Air Force is leasing to launch UAV today. My father was taught powered flight in Taylorcraft Austors by the mayor of Peshawar in the early 60's. The mayor flew spitfires in Burma.

Saw a B-17 in real life once, there surprisingly stream-lined and small for what I was expecting out of a bomber. Nice looking plane in my book.

I dont know, I saw a Mercedes today that may put her to shame. It wasn't one of those crappy E-classes. It was one of those $80,000 REAL Mercedes cars.
