My new AMD fanboy rig is almost complete :)
« on: October 27, 2009, 11:52:26 AM »
For once I can show off a bit so here is goes.

CASE Antec NSK6580
PSU   SEASONIC - S12II-500
MB    ASUS M4A79XTD EVO -Chipset 790X
CPU   AMD PHENOM - II X4 965 BE
RAM   G.SKILL - 4Go ( 2*2Go ) 1600MHz DDR312800 F3-12800CL9D-4GBNQ
VC     SAPPHIRE HD5770-1024

Running Win7 Ultimate x64

As a system volume I'm still running a RAID0 of 80Gb SATA drives, thats the next upgrade maybe...The computer is amazing, I didn't find out its limits yet. I'm also thinking about getting a real sound card soon, but I want it to be compatible with games AND music creation softwares....any advice on that?

congrats! would be more entertaining with pics!

965 + HD5770 = sweetness!

just dont OC that board, four-pins are weak on overclocking. but the evo sure looks lovely.  ;)
(my msi 4-pin melted at 3.8GHz only, small fire ensued thereafter)

**edit pic of fire inserted:

Sweet, was thinking just about the same set up but with an X3.

Any thoughts on the X3?
Skrib what would be a better MB?

Nice, ya AMD Dweeb. :P   Will be sweet to see how that runs, you know you gotta throw us more then just a DxDiag, we're like dogs....or something... :D

Can't say much, using AMD myself.  Athlon X2 4850e, going for a Phenom II X3 BE later this year.
If the board meets the same fate as Skrib's, you can consider Biostar, never failed me (and the way I treat stuff, it's amazing), only upgraded cause my old was poor ol AM2 socket. :)

if you arent overclocking you need not fear meltdowns like what happened to me. basically big brands like gigabyte (ma790fxt-ud5p), asus (crosshair III formula, m4a79-t) and msi (790fx-gd70) all work great. theyre atx sized, and i've used all of them so i have personal knowledge. i've also had the pleasure of using biostar's ta790gx a3+. its an excellent value board but doesn't support any of the "X2" video cards in crossfire mode, only single gpu ones(4870, 4850, 5850, 5870.. etc). other boards ive used in micro-atx sizes are ecs a785gm-m and this, msi 785gm-e65.

for an x3, you may want to look at what batches to buy so you can unlock it to FOUR cores, using a board with ACC capability(any of the above mentioned).

Phenom II 720BE unlocking to quad: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=219087

Phenom II 550BE unlocking to quad: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=227004

i would however caution you that unlocking is not guaranteed or warrantied,(although its safe it doesnt damage anything) and dont expect it to happen in all 100% of the processors. it largely depends on your processor batch.

Here is a pic of the inside...nothing spectacular as I'm still running stock cooling...
I took the case from an older computer, the videocard barely fits in

A bit of CPU-Z.....

I put my RAM at 800Mhz, I dunno if it changes anything until I benchmark it seriously...

And just for fun here is my windows experience score  :D

I didn't benchmark it yet, all I can tell you is that yesterday I was playing GTAIV with everything in high in 1280x960 and I totally forgot that µTorrent was running in the background downloading at 200 to 500kb/s for hours  :t

HD5770 seems to be a real good deal for playing Aces High! Pity the case doesn't have wire managment holes but it's nothing a few tie-wraps/zip-ties cant fix! Good quality components!  :aok
