Just checking in and showing off the progress
« on: November 02, 2009, 06:57:02 PM »
Hey guys (and gals)

I haven't had time to wander any of the web boards in a while but I wanted to show off some progress on the nearly-complete R2-D2 I have been working on.

I set to goal to have it done by Halloween and asides a few minor things, I met the goal in time to greet the kiddos with R2

R2 waiting for more kids...we jammed traffic 12 times  LOL

Bit better close up

My favorite pricture of the night

Its been a challenge to build but well worth the reactions from kids and adults.  R2 heads over the pediatrics floor in a week or so to do some visiting with the children up there.

Hope to see you guys in the skies of Aces High this winter!

Now all you need is a couple kids to dress up as Jawas and carry it through the neighborhood...

Nah...  If that was the case, he'd sue everyone at all the Star Wars Celebrations because there were many around..  Some static models, some fully functional...
There are even kits available to build everything from Blasters to Lightsabers to full Stormtrooper/Clonetrooper armor..

That's one of many things I respect George Lucas for: He allows anyone to use his intellectual property as long as it is non-profit and doesn't compete with his products. Even rather decently made fan-movies like this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XD3FyJU51kM

Say that to the guys who had cease-and-desist orders leveled against them when they tried to make Star Wars mods for games.
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

Wow, that's incredible. Forgive my lack of knowledge on the robot, I noticed that the light on the upper portion of the robot changes color. My question is if it changes color immediately or if "rolls" between them as you see in movies?

And thus competing with Lucas' own video game products. Like I said.

I will say, I often bought normal games with Star Wars mods before I spent the same amount of money on a Lucas Arts game. The fan-made Mods were just better products and held true to the cannon specifications of the galaxy more than Lucas' own work.
