Due to stores not allowing games to be returned, I tend to DL the torrent, try the game for a day or 2 (Demo's usually too limited for me to see if I REALLY like it or not), then either go buy it, or delete it from my HD.  I think game companies should release the full version of the game, just time limit it, then I wouldn't have to search torrent sites ;)

Ack-Ack, as a person involved in the gaming industry, I would love to get your feedback on this..

Hardly.  He's talking about downloading a pirate version of the game and that makes him a thief.  I'm tired of twits like him that take money from my dinner table because they 'feel entitled' and don't have to pay for a game.

The Problem is today's games have hardly the quality and longetivity the old ones had, its all about making a quick buck for you and once its been bought your pretty much on your own, no patches or even better close down the devstudio to decrease costs. The continuing trend aswell is the reduction of features like Lan play and that silly addition of online authentication in order to play offline.

Also paying customers usually are the ones suffering from DVD protection while the illegal versions run without a hitch.
If the games were better people would buy them instead of getting them of the net to try them out first before spending their hard earned cash on yet another bug infested p.o.s software that might even damage your system with its "protection".

How are YOU losing money personally? Work for IW or something? If you think my $60 is bad you really ought to take a look at everyone else.

Because I work in the gaming industry and piracy affects us as a whole.  Why do you feel entitled to steal, why not just pay for it?

You don't think $60 a copy for a crap video game is piracy? In the last 2 years there have been a lot of "highly anticipated" $60 a crack massive flops released that end up as $10 Walmart specials in less than a year. And they publishers continue to push their junk out to the public without regard to the actual value...and that's not called piracy?

I haven't seen one publisher offer a refund for any of the junk games they have released.

Many of the companies have learned to protect their junk by not allowing "cracked" games to be updated/patched, locked out of multiplayer mode on dedicated servers or even playable after a period of time.

The high price of console games aren't a result of the developers wanting to charge more money, there is a $10-$15 levied on developers by Microsoft and Sony, which is carried over in the cost.  That's why PC games are less expensive in general than console games.  Regardless of the price, it still isn't a valid excuse to steal.

If you don't want to get saddled with a less than stellar game, do not buy it at launch.  Wait a couple of weeks until reviews come out and then make an informed decision on whether or not you want to purchase that title.

Again, still not a valid excuse to pirate and steal games.  Continue to make excuses to make stealing a little more easier on the soul but it's still stealing regardless.

The ones that pay the price for piracy isn't the publishing house, it's the studio that developed the game...you know the programmers, testers, artists and the like.  It's them that take the hit in the wallet, but hell, what do you care, right?  You're too busy enjoying the game you just stole.

I don't feel entitled, I'd pay for it in a heartbeat and have had it pre ordered since June, but just recently my computer crashed and I had to drop $600 dollars on a new computer (Wasn't worth upgrading the older one). Later on I will probably buy it so I can test out the multiplayer (sadly only 9v9) but I don't have the funds ATM to keep the pre order.

You do realize with the number of people boycotting this game (not counting the 100+ clans), that PROFIT losses for IW are running at about $12m? There's more than one thing that affects the pay, because I'm boycotting it, does that make me a bad person? Using your logic, it does.

Are you dense or just play on idiot on TV?  How can one compare boycotting a product with stealing it?

First off, the "official" MW2 "boycott" petition has only 15,359 signatures with a potential sales loss of no more than a $1 million USD and at $60 bucks a pop, Activision will recoup any losses from those "boycotting" the game.  I have no idea where you get the "$12 million" figure but I have a feeling you pulled it out of where your head usually resides.

Also, the majority that are protesting and threatening to boycott the game are doing so because of the price it's being sold at on the PC (most of the boycotters are PC users), they are upset because they have to pay console prices for a game that is usually $15 to $10 cheaper on a PC.

The clans that are threatening to boycott the game due to lack of dedicated servers are far lower in number than those that are boycotting it due to the price.  In any event, any loss of potential revenue from these two groups will easily be made up by the higher price of the game.

However, I do sympathize with the U.K. gamers as they are getting screwed over again by paying higher prices than any other region.  In my opinion, their ire is valid while the others I chalk up to being nothing but a bunch of little whiners.

So will the boycott even make Activision wince?  Hell no.  The boycotters remind me of the ant in a story that is screwing an elephant and then asking if it hurts because he's too big.

The Video game industry has no regs to protect the consumer only the manufacture, The Consumer (us) can only go off of what the reviewers say about the games, or from friends Etc.  Then we go out and spend a hell of alot of money on these games $60 new releases , were all excited hurrying home, the anticipation of playing it mounds, you put the game in (either PC or Console) AND the game totally blows, now you just wasted your money on a crap game, cant return it , What take it to gamestop and trade it in for 1/4 of what you just paid? like i say THEY screw the consumer.

Not sure if Gamestop still does it but like most retail brick and mortar stores, they usually will give 3-5 days to return the game after purchase for a full refund if you don't like the game.  However, some stores are putting up some restrictions because it was found that this was one of the ways pirates were making illegal copies of the game.  They'd buy the game, burn copies and make ISO's and then return the game the next day for a full refund.

Understandable on thier part, however, since I know of No stores which allow a return of an opened PC game, I am not sure that this policy has not wound up encouraging piracy, rather than to help squash it..  Again, I am speaking only of PC gaming here... Piracy will unfortunately always be an issue.. would it not be better to cater to those of us who WILL be paying for the software, by allowing us to at least return it for an exchange if we find it crappy?  Not really the dev or publisher's problem, more the store's, but if the publisher and devs are confident in thier product, they would not mind the stores permitting returns, since the vast majority would be bought and kept, not copied and returned.

(BTW I have a wife who is an aspiring recording artist, so intellectual property is a HUGE thing in my house as well, anything we d/l to try, be it music, or software, we buy or delete within a few days)

I think I've decided to not wait until I have time to go to a store, or even wait for shipping.  I'm just going to download it the second I have time to go get it.
