Hey, I'm all for this idea if the arenas are kept mostly flyable. My question is an honest question - how flyable is T-Storm weather as the OP asks? The other suggestions seem reasonable.

Go to the pizza map & hang out at one of the ports when the fog bank rolls in. No fun to be had unless you like flying in to stuff.

Odd, I have fun and don't run into things at those ports...

Granted that fog gets out of control but it still adds an interesting variable into combat.

...and we'd need weather recce flights to plot the weather too?
Sounds like a good reason for some more planes/versions - like the PBYs.  :rock
Here we are, living on top of a molten ball of rock, spinning around at a 1,000mph, orbiting a nuclear fireball and whizzing through space at half-a-million miles per hour. Most of us believe in super-beings which for some reason need to be praised for setting this up. This, apparently, is normal.

I'm curious, how easy would it be to fly in a thunderstorm?

In real life?  Its the last thing you want to do.  Severe up and down drafts coupled with turbulence that can rip the wings off--no thanks.  I've already had a "kiss-the-ground" flight, and I'll not have any more.

Rain like this would be fun, and add an interesting element to special events.

Agreed--definitely looks like a nice set of possibilities in that picture.

Interesting idea as long as it wasn't an entire map affected the same way...maybe a 25 to 50 mile radius of moving weather conditions with some random wind sheer at high alts tossed in depending on the weather pattern...so far the random fog banks are cool. The GV'ers wouldn't be stopped unless visibility was zero.

Imagine the whines when a bad weather cell moved in over a base that was nearly to the point of being captured...or maybe disrupting a furball.  :lol

Sounds like a great idea!  I loved those old cloud banks in Aces High 1 and was sad when they got replaced by the 2d clouds of AH2...  I remember ducking in and out of clouds to lose zeros in my P-40 back in the CT, which's impossible with the 2d cloud textures.

The maps are so big that I think you could have localized bad weather roll through and only affect a base or two at a time... nothing game-breaking.

...imagine the whines (and log offs) when the entire arena is disrupted.

That sounds more like the old 'Night' ...everybody really did log off then.  Weather doesn't have to be an arena-wide thing.

a storm front would be great!  why not, so what if you cant fly that means you have to get into a tank and hit the ground.  and for the feew brave ones that wanna try flying have at it!  would make the game even more realistic.

AH seems like a very nice place to live.  It never rains, it's always sunny, and it's never below 72F.

Its always 59F.

Rain sucks and it will kill fps. Bad idea.

How different is rain or any other 'weather' element a performance dropper?  What are you running? A 486DX40 with 2MB? :D

Seriously, current graphic engines and direct x support environmentals on purpose - to simulate weather.  Would be no different than clouds with low visibility. :aok
