I totally should have known it was Alabama when you posted. :)

This is a middle eastern city. More hints to come later this evening if nobody takes a shot with just that.

Back to war related stuff.
These two fortresses on each side of the river played a central role in a battle fought by Danish soldiers.

How in the heck did you get that one? TxMom? Nevermind just being rhetorical there.

BTW your image is the old city in Jerusalem and more specifically just north of the old temple area.

The left fortress was built by Danes in 1256, but was since improved vastly by Sweden up throgh 17th Century. The right fortress is built in 1492.

Although these fortresses have seen many wars, the one I was referring to was World War 2, where both were heavily damaged, but since restored.

This city in Central Asia has a river flowing along the eastern and southern sides and the river flows to the west. More hints might be given if needed but they would truly give it away.

The brewery in this town has a rather unique slogan...the brewery is on the southern end of the town and I worked for the steel manufacturer on the north end of town. Town is in Europe.

In germany?

Yes it is in Germany...that should narrow it down some.

OK to narrow it down even more...This town and brewery was relatively untouched by allied bombing raids during WW2 unlike many other breweries. Also its in the western part of Germany.
