very very minor P-47M graphic bug
« on: December 03, 2009, 12:38:44 PM »
Looks like the M got a work over in last release, sorry I was late in posting this one.

Tail wheel does not leave a dust trail when taxiing.

Far too many, if not most, people on this Board post just to say something opposed to posting when they have something to say.

If the picture is deceiving the dust is still not there from a dead stop. Maybe its the height of the wheel or something weird like that.
I should have posted a side shot.
This can be duplicated on any takeoff, so I do believe it qualifies as a bug, and more correctly a very, very minor one as it was titled.

I've noticed sometimes while taxiing in F3 mode (I pan down to see the ground better) that the tail wheel doesn't always leave a trail at faster speeds... You have to really slow down to normal taxi speeds (less than 20mph).

It also becomes more pronounced when you lock the tail wheel and pull back on the stick (pushing it into the ground more?)

Have you tried slower speeds to see if it comes back?

Yikes, from the replies I've started a conTROVersy.  Watching in the TA using external , from stop to takeoff, no dust from tail wheel.
I've accelerated to speed, guessing maybe 75mph and stopped, still no dust.

Compared to other P-47 variants, this was the only dust free version.

Just looked at it some more in TA. If you get the tail wheel off the ground and apply brakes and pull back on stick, you do get a puff of dust when the wheel hits the ground but not as it rolls along.

Actually, now that you mention "puff of dust" on impact, maybe that's what I was recalling from before.

Just tested this offline, same for me. Right from standstill to tailwheel coming off the ground, no dust trail

The question is, do other planes have the same deal?

I don't really recall tail wheel trails unless I've got my elevators hauled back to lock the tail wheel.

As I mentioned above in reply #4, all other P-47 variants do have a dust trail from tailwheel when taking off or taxiing.

What Im curious to is that the 47M is the 47N renamed pretty much yea? So does this bug exist in the N as well?

It's more of a renamed D-40 anyway  :old:

Fuzeman, I did read that, im just wondering why if it was simply a renamed N, shouldn't this bug exist on the N as well?

The only thing it shares with the N is the engine, it's a D40 airframe...

WRong. They took the P-47N flight model and modified it to create this version. It went so far as to still have the wing tanks modeled at first, and the fuel wasn't showing up properly because it still thought they were getting filled as well.

Other than that, definitely sounds like something HTC should put on the "to look at" list
