Rich Text Editor Option
« on: December 04, 2009, 04:13:19 PM »
I wish for there to be a text editor on the bulliten board that uses the preview style viewing to show what you type, instead of having to write bbcode to make it look a certain way.   This seems like a relatively simple wish to solve, and as always, for those who the recession has hit hard, and those who like it the way it is, it can remain an option.

I see no reason for this wish to be either

a.) Too difficult for coders

b.) Making anything gamey

c.) Too difficult for any computer

d.) Having a workaround

The reason for my  wish is that:

1.) That the scroll bar in the text editor keeps jumping up so that I can't see what I am typing

2.) It is hard to tell how the post will turn out, and can lead to lengthy editing times, and frustration for those who can't use bbcode easily

Fixing this would be amazing. :D I've had it on my comp, on all the comps I use, school, and home.

+1 on the preview as well.

The problem with the scroll bar jumping in the text editor is due to Microsoft screwing up IE8's Java.

No other browser has the problem.  To work around the IE8 problem it has been posted that if you set the browser into "compatibility mode" it will take care of the issue.

Making a WYSIWYG editor is not going to happen as we do not control the bulletin board software.  If you want that feature, you need to go to SMF's bulletin board and make that request.

Why thank you, I'll have to do that. :D

trigger, keep in mind I have not seen IE8, so I have no idea where that mode setting is.

EDIT:  I detest the UI (user interface) for IE7/IE8.

My gosh, that UI is a nightmare!  How do you figure out anything?

Most of it's pretty easy, and I added alot for ease of access as well (yay for toolbars). For anything else, scroll over and let it explain it. :D

Right, I'll just transplant this over to SMF's forum.

Wait, where is that forum?

Uh-oh, I don't have an account there.

Why does it have to go over to SMF?

SMF makes the bulletin board software, not HTC.

Of course if you just used a non-crappy browser like Firefox or something you wouldn't have the problem in the first place :)
