Some help from those of you in PA and MD please
« on: December 20, 2009, 12:38:55 AM »
Im trying to drive up North to upstate NY tomorrow for my first xmas back from afghanistan. I was hoping some of yall that live in the MD and PA area could tell me the conditions of the highways. I'll be hitting the I-95, I-70, and the PA turnpike are some of my big ones from memory. Any info is a great help.

The Weather channel traffic conditions is sorta vague. My best bet is sunday by the looks of it. But Id rather collect some first hand knowledge.

Best bet: drive slower, increase stopping distance, try to be patient.
I drove 18 wheelers otr for 3 yrs alot of it in the NE. Winter up there can suck pretty bad. So try and follow start of post and be safe.

Check with the state department of transportation, or highway patrol.  They usually have a website with road conditions.
Everyone I know, goes away, in the end.

The freeways will probably be fine and I for one won't be on them as you pass by the Philadelphia area.  Safe trip, BJ

I pulled 2 cars out of a ditch, gave one person a ride to a Wawa and went out on 2 calls from friends who got their cars stuck yesterday.  Full size trucks and years of driving them in winter conditions = good :)

I did see that the local Papa John's was delivering pizzas yesterday.  What kind of a jerk do you have to be to order a pizza for delivery in the middle of a blizzard  :huh :headscratch:

Afternoon Blue,  ( Im in PA )

No worries about PA, the turnpike, I 78 I 95 and most all other roads ( major and minor ) are clear, Just watch out for wet spots as its supposed to be cold the next few days, and the "black ice" can be a concern.

Roads clear though. A good radio station to tune into if your commin thru the SE corner of PA is KYW 1060am. They give u traffic updates every 10 minutes.

wanna hear something funny?

a lady pulls into the parking lot to get gas in front of my shop, in a toyota matrix. she got stuck. now mind you, this is after there's a couple of feet on the ground.
the landlord hadn't been able to get a plow truck out there yet, so we ran the snowblower..but enough accumulated, that she still got stuck.
she comes into the shop asking for help, so i grab a shovel to go out to help her. she starts ranting about why there's so much snow that she's stuck. how they should've had the lot plowed already, blablabla......

then i notice it as we're pushing her backwards.........BALD TIRES!!

i asked her if she thought having good tires would help, and she says "well, i intended to do that today, but it looks like not now"

sheesh.....like her tires went bald over night? and this snow was sa surprise/??
