TBM Bomber Formation Option
« on: December 20, 2009, 10:22:03 PM »
Ok folks, up until now I have either supported, modified or flamed your ideas....now its my turn (gulp)!  I believe the majority of bomber type aircraft in AH2 have the option to be utilized in either single plane or formation modes.  I, as a fan of the TBM would like to see the formation ability added to this plane as an option.  I understand that the TBM was more of a multi purpose attack plane and is reallly light as a level bomber.  However, It is the only carrier based aircraft that has a bombardier station for level bombing. Right now this fine aircraft is underutilized, primarily due to its light individual payload and lack of coordination with or availability of escorting fighter cover.  The formation option would address this by providing concentrated offensive and defensive power without upsetting the game dynamics too much (it is after all, still a light bomber) while also generating a bit more player interest in this fine aircraft.  Also, for those of you who prefer to use it as a attack aircraft instead of level bombing....don't use the formation option.  Thank you all for your input.

Was not a carpet bomber, which is what formations simulate.

Ok, I can see your point.  However, I think that in consideration for the TBM's unique strengths and weaknesses, it would still be a good candidate for the formation option.  :salute

Thanks Ruler2 I missed that one.  I feel it appropriate to amend my origional post to include the B5N2 alongside the TBM for update to the bomber formation option.  :salute

The US Navy did have one squadron that employed the Norden and used level bombing techniques on strikes during the war.  Personally, I'm not sure if the Turkey or Kate could snag a 3 wire without all of the drones crashing into the water behind the ship; I would think that would be part of the problem.

The drones don't actually land and taxi after landing on the land based fields now.....could probably be handled with them just disappearing upon the primary aircraft touching the deck.....

And the naval dive-bombers are prime candidates too. The Aichi D3A1 Val and Douglas SBD usually flew in formation to the target and attacked in rapid succession.

IMHO Simba has a good case for inclusion of dive bombers into the formation option request.  :salute Any nays? No? Motion carried!  :neener:  :rock
