Sadly we were unable to accomplish our primary of preserving the 88's of the 322nd.  Our deepest appologies daddog and co.  The Fw190F-8 was just outclassed by the P-39.  And the Unforgiven was unforgiving.  We could not dive with them, turn with them, or run them down.

There is nothing more frustrating than enemy planes flying right past you, not even bothering to shoot at you as they race into the bomber stream.  What a helpless feeling.  My stomach sank everytime an 88 lit up, while we fell back in futile pursuit.

Are you kidding? You did the best you guys could in a poor situation. Once or twice enemy scouts could have found us and they were dispatched. You guys got us within visual of our target. After that, with enemy above, no body can stop fighters from making at least one pass. With just single Ju88's that is all it takes. Our night was done.

No complaints here. III/JG11 got us as far as a squad could have.

We had similar difficulties escorting 110s.  High speed Yak-9Us left our 109G-6s in the dust; they simply ignored us and went straight for 'em.

Had a blast last night. The fight at the end of the night over A42 was fun.

Think I scored the 1st kill on an 88 at A41. Fired two 37Mils and he had no tail section. But I had slowed to make it count and as I banked out to hunt for more a 190 showered me and took out my big gun. The four 50Cals I had set to 1 convergence of 350 should have done well against a single 88, but between the 332nd switching to survival mode with evasives and JG11 catching up with me, my night was over quick. Could't saddle up and snapshots did little to the bombers without the spinner gun.
 
I see the rest of my squad did OK. Stopped the bombers from getting to target(except for the 1 field gun>>> someone deserves a medal for that).

From our perspective, any fighter that has a distance icon is too close and it seemed you were everywhere. We went in with the intention of keying on the bombers no mater what the loss and the dive acceleration of the 39 made all the difference. Gave us about 60 seconds to work with.

Had JG11 been in somthing with a little more down hill jump or formations were on, things could have been vary different.

Actually you guys did an outstanding job. Almost all of VF-17's 110s were able to evade the Yaks you guys engaged and get to the target.
The P-39s and LA-5s over the target pretty much finished us off. Considering the situation we couldn't have asked for a better job by our escorts.

That explains what happened to the attack on 41.  Air Raiders saw a grand total of one 88 which was DD and was shot down.  The other defense squads didn't seem to find much either and we spent a long time chasing each other until we got in range of range. lol

Full ammo in hand, we went to 19 (I think) and killed the ords and troops with our Yaks.

<S> JG11  The JU88 is an easy target big, slow and no guns to speak of. we got some hits on the p39's but the 7 mm just scratched the paint. Never flown the 190 f8 but have fought it a few times y'all did good with what you had.

The flight was tactically sound.

We will take the 190F-8 up anytime, against anything, without complaint.  By no means do I hope to see an a/c whine/discussion come from a well, hard fought mission, nor was any such implication implied or intended.  It's a tough scenario, and we ran into a tough foeman.

We saw plenty of enemy aircraft over 37. Some hits on the base, but a lot of the bombs were off-target.

The German attack appeared highly disorganized. The escorts were scattered and the Ju-88s made their attack runs in 2-3 small groups that we were able to pick off with ease.
