xbox 360 question.
« on: February 17, 2010, 07:40:10 PM »
My old xbox died, so im debating on picking up a new one. I think what will make or break it for me, is if I can use my old hard drive with the new one.

Can this be done or not? I really dont wanna lose my game saves, and xbox live accounts.

Yeah that should work fine presuming we're talking about two xbox 360 hard drives, correct?

Yes, two 360 hard drives. My old one died just before halo ODST came out. So, did ODST end up killing off halo 3 like they said it would?

Whats ODST like? Does your halo 3 stuff transfer over? Ive got a level 50 in team doubles I dont wanna lose. :)

Nope, ODST was more of an expansion on the original Halo 3's campaign mode then a complete multiplayer replacement. It was kind of a waste of money, IMO.
I don't think anything can kill off the way Halo 3 delivered multiplayer, it seemed it was really fair and skill based, unlike the COD series.  :)

WAIT!
Do not buy yet!

If you want the PERFECT xbox 360, you'll wait a few months for the Valhalla chipset, it will decrease the fail rate to 7%!!! And the xbox 360 will be much cheaper because of the design, "slim".

Otherwise, get a Jasper... Look at the box and find the power input and output and check if it says 12V---12,1A;5V---1A.

Because it's a Microsoft product, but... With a 7% failure rate, **** it!  :devil

It has a lower failure rate then the PS3, the PS3 will be very much killed if this goes according to plan!

From what happened to a friend of mine a few weeks ago, you can always transfer our online accounts (and online content) to any new xbox, as long as you remember your passwords n such. His was stolen, used, but a couple of days into it was recovered and installed on his brothers xbox system. He actually recovered his original xbox, and put everything back on to it.
Also, you can plug in your old hard drive to the new xbox, copy the saved files to the system, then copy on to the new hard drive.

The latest revision (Jasper) has less than a 10% failure rate, the same as the Valhalla and Opus chipset.  The majority of the failures have been with the Xenon chipset and with the Zephyr chipset coming in second.  The Falcon chipset greatly reduced the failure rate and the Jasper cut it down even further.  It is expected that the Valhalla chipset won't reduce the failure rate beyond the rate set by Jasper, it will however reduce the power needed to run it because of the combined CPU/GPU.

The Opus chipset is different than the Valhalla in that it's intended to fit in the Xenon cases and will most likely be used only to refurbish the Xboxes that were sent in because of the RROD and will not be seen in normal production Xboxes.

No date though when we'll see either chip.  Speculation was late 2009 or 2010 now talk is late 2010 or mid 2011, probably after Project Natal has been released.

No it doesn't.  The reported failure rate of the Valhalla and Opus chips is the same as the Jasper which is around 10%, the PS3 (both fat and slim versions) has a failure rate of less than 1%.
