Wabbit Playoff.
« on: March 10, 2010, 10:24:55 PM »
Hi guys,
My first avenue of discussion went nowhere so I'm asking for your opinions on the new Wabbit playoff.
My initial thoughts are:
[1] I would like this to run immediately before the TOC on the same day. Important and probably will not change due to scheduling issues.
[2] I'm assuming having a separate wabbit event, Tournament of Wabbits, may take too long and if it did run long would effect the scheduled TOC start time. This Tournament of Wabbits being like a regular KOTH with a player winning three rounds would run long on time or could.
[3] Number of Kills will not be used as they are not accurate with people ditching when they are low and slow and end up on the terrain.
[4] Possibly have the first 2, 3, or 4 wabbit wabbits, fly a single round and the winner advancing into the TOC.

I'm sure my narrow thinking has probably left out some interesting possibilities that you will come up with. So please voice your opinions and let's come together on the wabbit wules.

Thanks for your time, effort and ideas.

Ok, here is my thoughts, since this is the result of the POLL taken.......

having it on the same day as the KOTH TOC is not a bad idea, but you most certianly need to allow more time of this event than just 1 or 2 hours before the start of the KOTH TOC "Main Event"

with that said, below is my thoughts on the matter........

1 - do we want to allow just ONE Participant to advance to the KOTH TOC? or do we want to allow 3   or allow 5 ?

2- I suggest we allow either the first "3"  or allow the first "5" who obtain "WABBIT STATUS" in this Wabbit WildCard PlayOff event to advance to the KOTH TOC........ this way you are not looking for a 3 Round Winner, you are not having to go on who has the most kills, you can end the event as quickly as you have received/gained either "3" Wabbits  or "5" Wabbits........

3- My suggestion of up to "5" wabbits is to allow for some empty spots that may be there of "Monthly KOTH event Winners" who just don't show up....... but I would insist that it at least be "3" Wabbits (<---- the 1st "3" to obtain Wabbit Status in the Wabbit WildCard Event ) doing it this way will allow Fuzeman/AKDogg to end this WildCard Event Quickly...........

4- I would still set a max time limit on this event...... example: KOTH TOC start time is 4:00PM EST so make the Wabbit WildCard Event start at 1:00PM EST and to have a maximum time of  2 1/2  hours or 2 3/4 hrs MAX........ this allowing the end of the Wabbit Wild Card Event and rolling right into the main "KOTH TOC" event.......

5- either taking what wabbits you have at the :"Time Called" or  possibly having this event end sooner as soon as the first "3" or "5" Wabbits have been obtained for advancement.....

just my suggestions.....

hope this helps......

EDIT:  Wabbit Wild Card Start Time: 12:00 PM EST    MAX End Time 3:30 PM EST  ( could end sooner if "3" or "5" qualifyers are obtained quickly )

KOTH TOC Start Time: 4:00 PM EST       end Time: when a participant wins 3 rounds

I thought the old system worked well, and maybe should be a two or three wabbit increase but still all in the same koth. So really I have no input now to this wabbit playoff idea, but i am interested to see how it plays out.

Well, this should get the opinions a rolling, how about I charge any wabbit who wants to fly in the TOC $20.  :O

It's a shame it got decided on so quickly that a Wabbit Playoff was the best course of action because imo it isn't going to play out.  KOTH is a rather large time commitment and to start a playoff before TOC would be committing a potential wabbit winner to a four-five hour time commitment potentially.  That's a long time to be flying a special event imo.  The wabbit playoff system is also taking a leap of faith that wabbits will want to playoff for a chance to compete in TOC.  If you think TOC attendance was iffy, I'd bet the wabbit playoff attendance is much worse.

So how many winners from the playoff do you think you want to take?  What if only 4 wabbits show up?

For simplicity sake, I think 2 wabbits in a calender year should equal a TOC birth.

Technically the only thing that has been decided upon is a change in how wabbits gain entry into the TOC, absolutely nothing has been finalized yet.
Its a long shot, I believe, but it could still come down to no change at all.

Well, we can all agree that a wabbit should not be worth the same value as a koth victory.  I think a wabbit being worth half of a TOC entry is fair, and very attainable for those koth'ers on the bubble.  It would also give players of wabbit status incentives to keep flying throughout the calendar year to try and attain that 2nd wabbit.  That can only be good for the event of Koth itself with more players wanting to participate.

Imo if you thin out the field of potential TOC invitees, you are investing too much stock into this wabbit playoff system to provide adequate numbers for TOC.  If I wasn't a great pilot, I probably wouldn't have any desire to invest time into a wabbit playoff system just for the prospect of getting curb stomped by Kazaa and TonyJoey in the TOC.  Imo, wabbit playoff turnout will be poor and it might just come down to, if you show up, you advance to TOC.  Or, if you are only looking to advance 1 or 2 pilots from the wabbit playoff, then TOC might only average 8 pilots per year.  That would provide better 1v1 fights, but it's not really in the spirit of Koth, a caged death match free for all.

I like the way it is now, simply because of attendance. The more the merrier. As Grizz pointed out also, I don't think increasing the time that would have to be committed would be a good idea.

Scheduling itself is a big factor, if not the biggest, in who attends the TOC, no way around that. That is in fact the reason we delay the TOC until January of the next year, to let the holiday hustle and bustle settle down and let people return from holiday.

And that will never work for everyone, and that was seen this year in a larger than normal rate.  So regardless of how many people qualify for TOC, it's always going to be only a percentage that actually can attend TOC.  Wabbit playoff sounds kewl in theory but my personal opinion is that it won't pan out.  I've listed the reasons why already.

I wouldn't want this playoff to last a long time either as I'd be the host and want to be in the right frame of mind for the TOC, if that's possible. That was my initial reason to want this to be completed in the hour before the TOC ran, if details can be ironed out to fit it in there.

Could you run it on a Friday before the TOC event? That way you'd have 24 hrs to rest. I think the TOC should be special and only the winners fly in it. I'd also think only the wabbit champ should proceed to the TOC. Just my opinion.

First line of reply #12 was mostly humorous, at least the end was. I'd really want this to be a one day thing as it has to fit in before the regular KOTHs and the other special events that have many frames. I will be fine as a host as long as I have time to get a beverage and pay the rent before the TOC begins.
