Down in flames?
« on: March 11, 2010, 06:03:22 PM »
I noticed none of the WW1 a/c burn. Seems very odd, but I know its "early days yet"...fuel hits should be bad.  ;)

Do we get the pistol option like in the movie fly boys? Or burn to a crisp until we crash or just jump to our deaths?
Hmm & I thought the other posts were morbid.

I haven't seen one burn yet either, but it probably doesn't help that most of my bullets headed to the fuel tank are going through the pilot first..

I burned last night.

And actually, I burned for a good 25 seconds, landed & ditched.  Might be a bug.

I saw a couple get lit on fire, mostly from AAA, tho.
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

Only ones I saw burn were hit by AAA, and I saw enough go down that some should have been on fire...it was not that rare in WW1, far from it, as the fuel tanks had no protection of any kind ala A6M2 Zero.

Although I cannot be 100% certain, I am more than fairly sure I wasn't a victim of AA.

Quotes attributed Major Edward Corringham "Mick" Mannock VC, DSO and Two Bars, MC & Bar:

"Flamerinoes - four! Sizzle sizzle wonk!"
"I sent one of them to Hell in flames today ... I wish Kaiser Bill could have seen him sizzle."

Yeah! I want the pistol, wrench, and brick options for my planes  :neener:

The pistol referred to in this thread is to shoot yourself so you don't have the 'fun' of burning to death.

From the BBC article:
But what Mannock - and many other pilots - feared most, was going down in flames, without a parachute, and burning to death. For this reason he carried a revolver in his cockpit, vowing that if his plane did catch fire he would shoot himself, before the flames devoured him.

As to your request, you may have noticed that a couple of machine guns have been mounted on each of these scouts.  All of these post-date, by quite a bit, the times when pilots were shooting at each other with rifles, pistols or even throwing things at each other.  Machine guns being somewhat superior to those methods.

Looked at Cntr-D and FUEL FIRE is there, but I think the code to start a fire is set to too low a percentile chance or damage level, or whatever determines it. I see a lot of fuel leaks but nobody is ever on fire. There have been issues in the past, like the Mossie, where fuel hits produced too common a fire, but this is set too low for WW1 planes.

And just to add a little more epic, if you bail over water you should be able to do tricks eg; 3 and a half turn pike
