Mossi Bomber
« on: March 15, 2010, 11:20:36 AM »
Can we have the mossi bomber, after all it was the reason the mosquito was invented, and not as a fighter.

I'm all for a little more diversity with the Mossies, but I have to ask you, honestly.... Given the option of a single plane with NO gunswhatsoever, but a bombsight, vs a plane with a MASSIVELY powerful hispano loadout and no bombsight.... All other things being equal (performance, range, bombload)...

Do you think folks would honestly ever use it?

Like I said, I'm for it, but I hadda ask anyways.

I would use it, the thing flys at what? 400+ mph? Even with no guns it would be an awesome blitz bomber.

Here is a great movie on the mossi as a bomber.  BTY, go to framed 0:02, and behind the pilot.  Is that a rear gun turret or something?

He said "bomber" mossie, not "Mossie16" -- there were many clear-nose variants, assuming it was the best, latest-and-greatest isn't what I was replying to.

Given 2 options, one with and one without nose guns, all other things being equal, not many will choose the bomber version.

Also, mossies should never get formations, ever. They were not mass-bombers, they were attack craft more than bombers (yeah, I'll take some flack for that comment, just you watch!), and given that they have NO defensive guns there is no reason to give them formations (with which to defend themselves).

Formations replicate carpet bombing, and replicate (poorly, IMO) box formation defensive capabilities. Mossies neither flew in box formations for defense, nor carpet bombed. I'd like a no-formation clear nose mossie (or 2, 1 early, 1 late) to round out scenarios and such. Personally, though, I'll still take the FB model when flying in the MA.

It's a pesepex (spelling?) dome. Found on many planes. The nagivator could stick his head in it for a look around, or I assume use navigation tools for tracking the sun, moon, stars, etc. Our B-17 also has one right in front of the cockpit in-game.

I was just assuming "bomber" meant "formation" in that case, no it'll be rarely used.

Perspex. The dome was used for navigation as Krusty said.
