Ok, my question is...how many millions of dollars were spent , to send me a mailing to inform me that I will be receiving a mailing?

I am quite fed up with the ineptitude of our government, we are 10 million ways to broke and we still find ways to spend money in worthless endeavors...
 :furious

Oh, how i agree with you on that.  In Kansas, we are facing a possibility of school closings left and right because of the budget.  i have  seen where billions of tax payer money is going and if majority of the people knew where billions of dollars was used for, they would be out rage.

the teachers unions here in nj are going nuts, advertising against our new governer. apparently, he's really trying to do something, and is cutting state aid to the school districts,......and they don't like having their money taken away. i'm guessing that learning in a 5 year old building isn't good enough or something.....

P.S: Most American patriots when I question them say to me, YOU WOULD BE SPEAKING GERMAN RIGHT NOW. Well guess what. Without us you would be speaking SPANISH/French Right now !!  :D

Seeing as you're Australian wouldn't it be "You would be speaking Japanese right now"?

just saw that 40 schools in Detroit will be closing along with some school in Kansas city, Mo. and another school district in Illinois will cut 1,000 jobs.  This is truly pathetic how the government can bail out banks who caused all this mess yet the schools in this country can not get the help.

the schools(at least around here) are run just as stupidly as the banks are/were.

they just built a new highschool in my town. it didn't matter that we didn't/don't need it, they built it anyway. i'm fairly certain that it's much the same elsewhere.

totaly different here Cap, last year the schools cut 15 days off the year because they were out of money, this year they have cut all but 3 electives for the kids (ROTC, Cad (very old cad program thou) and yearbook staff, now there talking about letting the kids out 2 or 3 weeks early this year again ( outa money) all of the sports programs are mostly funded by local citizens and businesses NOT wanting to see the kids go with out sports, Our state lottery was designed to help all the schools in Oregon, less than 10% goes to that cause, wheres the rest?  :headscratch:

according to my brother, the florida state lottery is supposed to do the same down there.

i think here in nj, the state lottery supposedly helps old folks......but i've yet to ever see any proof of such.

i do, however, think some of the administrative staff in most school systems are way over paid, causing a lot of these problems....although i could be wrong about that.

This is what this census is suppose to do.  determined where federal money is needed most for education.  I truly question the whole system and seeing more and more schools closing their doors, pink slips here and there, programs being cut and looking to have a 4 day school instead of five days.  This is all really changing my motivation in getting my teaching degree.
Wonder hoe Canada is doing, really looking to move up there.

It's the same in Illinois...  All the lottery proceeds are supposed to go to education by law...  So, naturally the funds DO go to education, but the two faced politicians just take an equivelent amount of money from the General Fund that WOULD HAVE gone to education, or even more...  Nothing at all is gained for education from the Lottery...  The Lottery is nothing more then another way they can tax people, and in the case of the Lottery, it is usually the poor folks throwing their money away on scratch off tickets etc...

kinda like a form of nlp.......they're taxing those that play the lottery, and worse yet......they WANT to hand their money away.

Problem that lotteries have had as funding sources is that state .govs tend to defund the recipients to the tune of the predicted funding they'll get from the lottery in question.  In other words, they are just back doors to fund other projects.
