just wondering why the Yak9-U does not have WEP seems like all the other fighters i have flown have it (have not flown all planes yet) but i do like the 9-U. Also does anybody have any good websites for russian ww2 aircraft and fighter tactics.

thanks in advance.  :)

It, as well as the a6m5 don't have wep.  I guess when they were manufactured either wep was decided too costly, or problematic I dunno.

I've read that many aircraft in ww2 had wep removed to save a bit of weight.

It would all depend on what you considered as WEP. Most engines are (were) rated as thus;

Takeoff rating...max boost pwr/5 min rating

Mil rating...climb/combat..5-15 min rating

Max continuous..normal rating..unlimited

max cruise...max for cruise economy

all aircraft had the max boost rating so all could be considered to have a WEP setting.

You also had a max boost rating with ADI  (MW50 or water injection)
Fuel injected boost as on late BMW801D
and high alt boost with NO2..(GM-1)

The removal of WEP usually meant the removal of the water injection equipment..the threat was non-existant in the pacific theater at this time..also helped reduce on maintenance time,

It all depends on what power setting is the baseline before WEP is considered..

Keyapha:
The Yak 9U was a Soviet upgrade from their earlier Yak. Very good at low alts, gave German 109s fits. Turned as well if not better than the 109 at low alts. Turns very good in AH as I can confirm from our fight last night (before the P-51 came into it) ;(
I was the F4U-1 you were fighting before the P-51 driver butted in  :)
You did a fine job with your evasives in that Yak <S> The Yak turns very well but, watch it, at higher alts it gives way to better performers.

Like Kreighund said, it depends on how you define WEP for the game.

The VK107 engine in the Yak-9U did not have water (like many American & British) or methanol injection (like many Germans)during their war time production.

However some of the post war Yak's, had the VK107A engine, which had water injection.

It other words, because it didn't have it.

Why would you inject water into an engine? Does it have some kind effect on the inlet air pressure?
