For you Bikers out there.......................
« on: April 02, 2010, 09:24:45 AM »
Here is something I came across while looking around youtube. As the weather is getting nice and we will be out there on our bikes, its always good to have a little extra eyes watching over us to keep us safe out there.

Salute my fellow bikers, this ones for you.

Here my version. Personally I hope I always have the physical fitness and skill to continue riding track bikes and dirt bikes.

These are great video's guys. I'm trying to get a bike but I don't think ill get a Harley as of now because I know ill probably lay it over at one point or another. LOL I'm thinking about a Hyosung GV 650 to start with. It seems to be a decent bike at a decent price. I know its a rice bike but hey Ive been told by bikers that ride Harley's "its not what you ride its that you ride".

Red, if your new to bikes. In my opinion any sort of cruiser styled bike is an extremely bad choice for a first bike.

Get yourself a 250 for your first bike.  You'll have to try a little bit harder to kill yourself on one.  I've got a Ninja 250, probably going to look for a 650 in a couple years.

'a man's gotta know his limitations'

Words to live by .. I raced Motocross for 2 years ..125cc class .. couple years later I got my first 'street bike'
.. I never could see the value of gettin a small displacement bike for street use
.. but then I had already run my 125 balls out for years.

First street bike was a 76(I think? ..somethin in there, green with gold stripes) 900cc Kawasaki Z .. I rode it a month
then geared it down, double chained it (kept stretchin the single chain), header, cams, and carb upgrade.
It was a blast to ride ..a real rocket to 120 or so. Nimble ..easy to manuever at any speed.
Spoiled me rotten.

Couple years later I got a '78 gold wing for 'cruisin' to work an back, black w/lotsa chrome, also 900cc.
Wife wanted her own so I got her an 1100cc Shadow (Harley look-alike) .. we went around to various dealers and she sat on this an that and the Shadow was what she liked the best.. then I looked thru the paper and got her a used one with low miles (like less than a hundred, you can find almost anything that someone bought and didn't much care for :)

First time she laid the Shadow down, she decided she'd rather ride on the back mk thx.

I thank God for the motocross experience/reflexes I developed.
Saved my life twice, never laid any bike down on the pavement.
(did every crash known to man on my dirt bike, first :)

I put 180 *thousand* miles split 'tween the Shadow and the Wing over the years I rode 'em.
Sold 'em both for more than I paid for them when I had to get rid of 'em :(

Point is .. get what you like .. ride it first to see how you 'fit'
..some that look 'cool' are just plain not a good idea :)
ie: the 2-stroke Kawasaki 750 ..ya .. I test drove one ..scariest bike I have ever been on, wheelies at half throttle and downright squirrely trying to pass a car on a two lane .. I passed .. got the 900 Z instead .. much more driveable :)
I could grab all the throttle she had in first gear ..the front wheel would come up a couple inches, and she would just plain bend yer teeth back accelerating ..120 in top gear came *fast* after I geared it down .. I mean .. I had no ambition to run up into 6th gear to 160+ mph with the stock gearing without a wind screen at the very least :)

I was looking at two different types of bikes the Hyosung GV 650 LE as below

or the Hyosung GV 250 or 650 Aquila witch look the same.

I like the first one due to it looks and Ive done some research on it and all says it handles well. The second two are more of what i need probably. Everyone tells me that i will take it out and see how fast it goes on the first day.
I don't think so I not a speed demon I just want something to cruse on in my spare time. Please let me know what you think of these bikes.

I don't mean to hijack your thread Dyna76 and I'm sorry if I have. :salute

Red, I have a Hyosung GT 650 comet as my everyday comuter. I bought it new and have had it for 3 years now and done 31,000 kms on it no problem except I need to put it on a battery charger every six weeks. I have an old souped up GSXR 750 for my fun bike but I feel I have really got my moneys worth out of the Hyosung, if they built a 1000cc V-twin with better suspension for a good price I would certainly have a look at it when I get rid of the old one (soonish). Just keep in mind you are buying a cheap bike and you get what you pay for.
Keep the shiny side up.
<edit> get the 650 not the 250 and as a learner look at the comet as it has a more controlled rider position.

Heya GE :salute
Just to remind ya, the Z1/KZ900/KZ1000, were all 5speeds. I have 3 of them here, 2 parts bikes, and one welded crank, balanced, 1150cc overbored, screamer. Its amazing how many Z's are still out there, riding... Truly a great bike!
Yeah, I remember the H1/H2 (Mach III/IV) triple 2strokes too! The early ones with drum brakes, and frames made of 5/8th diam mild steel tube, lol! Fast oh yes, when you could keep them running! CDI ignitions were still new back then. And the H's had three separate ign systems, one for each cylinder. The CDI's were unreliable, and the bikes spent more time in the shop than on the road.(probably saved alot of lives) The center cylinders would need rebuilding at a 3 to 1 rate vs the outer jugs too. A terrible bike overall, but going in a straight line, they'd give you that "warp drive feeling" for sure.  So much so, that they were banned for dragracing at the time. LOL, Harley guys, can't beat those rice grinders, change the rules, LOL! They did the same thing in flattrack racing too. Never had much respect for them after that BS!

Right now, My regular rider is still a Honda VF1100S that I bought brand new in 85. 48K and still immaculate, never been upside down, never even been in the rain, (intentionally)..  I LOVE that Bike! 120HP and a 6speed, smooth shaft drive, adjustable susp, anti dive forks. It will cruise at 55 or 155 at equal ease, and handles good in the twisty's too. I have a bunch of other bikes, but always gravitate back to that one...  Good bikes, always remain good, no matter how old they get!  Kinda like a good woman!
