Inability to Stop After Landing Inverted
« on: April 06, 2010, 02:12:58 AM »
Just like the title says. I'll land inverted and just keep sliding long after I should have lost momentum. I notice this pretty frequently. It's always a worry when landing inverted while under fire due to being unable to .ef while sliding.

Other times the plane will be sliding like this and then inexplicably start bouncing. It'll bounce higher and higher until I have enough height to explode and register as a crash.

I don't know if this happens outside of the P38 series.

This film's a good example of the sliding.

Noticed this too specifically in the 38s. It's hard to land our 38s anymore!

There is a very easy fix for this, try not to land inverted....

C'mon, someone had to say it... :neener:

This may have happened to me, but I don't remember how or why I was inverted. The only thing I could do was an Alt+F4.

Then you get a DITCHED, not a LANDED, it migt not be a huge issue, but it seems like it could be fixed relatively easily.

I'm afraid your Luftwaffleness may have clouded your vision. :D

I wouldn't be able to call myself a P38 pilot if I couldn't immolate my plane on command. ;)

turn off the blender behind the pilot's seat and the bouncing will stop when you land inverted.  It's the torque from the Margarita Blender Pro 2000 that is causing the bounce.

That worked!! Shoulda known all along. Damn it Shuffler, why'd you get the 2000 and not the 1500? You KNEW the torque was too high on the 2000!

Still trying to figure out.....   Why would you want to land INVERTED, let alone do it enough to find an inertia bug?   :huh

The simple solution, land on your wheels or your belly.    :x  If you land on your head, you should not have a landing at all.... you should be a red-paint stain on the runway.  I could be wrong, but I would be curious to know how many WWI planes were equipped with roll-bars to prevent the canopy from collapsing on enterprising young pilots who could not figure up from down.  LOL

Ahh, I see. I had the Margarita Blender Pro 2000 set all the way at 11 during single engine landings to cancel out the increased yaw. So once a safe inverted taxi speed has been established, one should dial the Margarita Blender Pro 2000 down to 3-4 to maintain proper lubrication without the violent bouncing tendencies?

Pfft... Anyone can land right side up. Inverted landings are an art. Something that only a true master can pull off with grace and eptitude.
