WW1 trial arenas
« on: April 20, 2010, 12:05:50 AM »
Hi all, as a bit of a traditionalist I fly the Camel almost exclusively (12 y.o. mainly WW1 squad started as Allied in FC against hordes of DR1 and Albatross), and what might be misinterpreted as a complaint is certainly not that, I enjoy the WW1 arena immensely - thumbs up to everyone who made it happen, our squad's been searching for a home this last decade and we believe we may have found it <S>. Things could always be better however so if I might just ask, with two extra (mostly unused) arenas available would it not be quite easy to run some trial ideas and see how they work out? There seem to be quite a few ideas coming in from the players, an arena with just two sides (1 Allied 1 Axis) with a/c type lockdown seems popular. It would still be just a dogfighting arena so conforms I think to the original concept?

Whatever was tried, I'm sure that one of the 'spare' arenas would not be missed too much.

Agree  :)

Its been the one thing that continues to puzzle me.
For as little as an arena seems to requires in hardware.
Why HTC has not done more to vary gameplay by trying alternate setups.

The AvA in many ways serves as a trial arena. But what do you wish to try? Arenas are really not that big of deal to create, but there must be a purpose, plus if it was an idea we thought would work, we would most likely try it in the LW.

As I said previously our next big task is to bring up user spawned arenas where they have control of all. So that will be a good venue for what you ask.

I think he's looking for one of the (now mostly empty) WWI arenas to be setup for just 2 sides and have AvA type setup for dogfighting.

cc gyrene81 is correct, I just thought it would be relatively quick and simple to redo one of the unused WW1 arenas as an AvA dogfighting arena, a small change for what the historical buffs would consider a big improvement. Hard to feel much like Ball or McCudden when there's a friendly DR1 off your Camels' wingtip and your opponent is flying an F2b lol.

That's too much information, man.
... missions were to be met by the commitment of alerted swarms of fighters, composed of Me 109's and Fw 190's, that were strategically based to protect industrial installations. The inferior capabilities of these fighters against the Mosquitoes made this a hopeless and uneconomical effort. 1.JD KTB

I'd be a lot more interested in WWI if it were AvA only.

Just exactly what HT said, user configurable arena's.

He hasn't stated yet how big they will be.
Personally I'm hoping he'll have a small size for everyone. And a somewhat larger size for those willing to pay extra for it. Like 32 player limit vs 8 - 16.

You will have to be an AH subscriber.
You will go through the AH Password server.
They will be hosted on HTC servers. So they maintain control, prevent them from being used for hacking, etc.

If you "hosted" one, you'd be able to choose the terrain, set the arena parameters.
Everything from radar range to icons on/off. In short the keys to your own mini main.
