Didn't do nothing unusual, just logged on and "Fat file missing" Goes to C prompt. Anyone have a clue? HD fried?

Attempting to boot "safe mode" I get "Windows detected a protection error in VKD file" it auto shuts off after that.

That's not good at all Ripsnort.

Chances are your FAT (file allocation table) have been corrupted and all data on your drive as well. You very well may have a bad drive on your hands also.

Rip is that VKD or VXD second one is the video as in (virtual) has soething to do with Direct X I think.

in c prompt try :

scanreg /restore (and choose earliest date)

or

scanreg /fix

Then do a

fdisk /mbr

and restart.

If that doesnt fix it... you got a problem
