I wonder what put holes in it?  Maybe a heron?

Heron or Crane, it was obvious the damage came from a wading bird with a long beak.  Wish I could have got a pic, it was kinda nasty lookin but the fish seemed otherwise healthy.
To each their pwn.

Well. After weathering an entire Winter and Spring, plus part of a Summer. I will finally be able to get back out on the water. My doc finally cleared me to fish with my partially broken wrist.  :x

Happened to me a couple of years ago, shattered my lower leg (tibia and fibia) in 3 places, surgery, rods, plates, screws etc to put ol' humpty daddy back together again.

Missed the whole summer fishing season, was great to get the rod and reel back in my hand once i was cleared!!

Can't you just eat around the holes?  I'm sure they're not that "filling" anyway...

I wonder what put holes in it?  Maybe a heron?  Had it been an eagle or osprey, I seriously doubt it would have gotten away if it was grabbed well enough to put holes in it.

Herons mostly! When i was a fishery assistance with the state doing bass, trout, catfish population count.  We would see a lot of fish with holes and/or scars from the herons trying to get them.

Going fluke fishing on the Helen h in a couple of weeks.   Dad and I been doing this for years now.   I almost lost him to 3 heart attacks and a quadruple bypass this January.   The only thing he talked about was going fishing with me when he gets better.   The doctor gave him the all clear to go.

4 weeks until beach time. Still trying to convince my 9 yr old to go trolling instead of bottom fishing. Probably won't work. The bad part is my 7 yr old daughter wants to go this year. She doesn't have the endurance for an all day trip. I may have to sacrifice and make a second trip on a half day for her. Sacrifices, sacrifices.  :devil

From everything im reading in the fishing reports they are hammering Fluke off Barnegate on Long Beach Island NJ. Also had a friend come back from a trip last weekend, he and his son caught about 40 between them, with the largest being a door mat at 26"

Good luck

Well!!! Just got back from my first fishing trip in 8 God Forsaken months.  Caught my first Smallmouth Buffalo and my first Flathead Ugly-Cat  :D

For a day we were just expecting to catch crappie and a few nice bluegill it was a pleasant surprise. Pound for pound those flatheads put up more of a fight than Walleye or Smallmouths... dang!  :x

Good to be back fishing, back in my element.

Old thread? No worries, a good thread is like a old fisherman, it never dies - it just smells.

Here's a pic of two great friends of mine enjoying themselves aboard their boat during the Annual Billfish Competition of Antigua in 2008. The only prize they won that year was 'Most Fun Boat' (the name on the stern perfectly describes the sole contents of the cockpit's large under-seat lockers) but Big Mick won the Saint Marteen's Annual this year with a 600lbs+ marlin and his wife Ruth (the yummy blonde seen here temporarily resting from mixing very large drinks) won the Ladies' Championship of Antigua title with a 500-pounder.

Meanwhile, this ol' cat dips a line in the local fishing pond in his usual indolent manner and dreams on:

Gone fishin', there's a sign outside ma door . . .

Actually shes been wanting a new couch for the living room and said that i can get my boat when she gets her new sofa.

Were going furniture shopping this weekend  :D

Was i played like a fiddle?.....yes

Okay, a tad off topic, but not much.
POLL: Which tastes better? Crappie, Walleye or Bass?

None of the above: this ol' cat prefers a Tuna bake with salad on the side, freshly-baked bread - and a cool beer.

Mmmmmmmmm, nice . . .

Good luck with your boat-acquisition ambition, Bailey. Just don't spend all your money on She Who Must Be Obeyed, or you'll never realise it.
